Yesterday I bought a used saxo vtr rep. Trying to tax it online, when I put in the reg number and the reference number of the new keeper section of the logbook, it says vehicle details not found....?? I have done vehicle checks and the vehicle and logbook etc all seems legit. I cant ring the dvla as theyre closed til monday and dont really want to wait til monday to be able to drive my car. Does anyone have any quick advice or ideas????

If you can find a post office open on a Saturday afternoon pop down there.

The car would still show as taxed if you bought privately as the DVLA won't have received the V5 from the seller yet, therefore it will still be taxed in his name. I'd take the chance and tax it at the post office Monday morning.

That's incorrect. I work in the motor trade. I taxed a car in the post office for a customer yesterday.

Thanks. I'll try that number. Im just really confused as to why its saying vehicle details not found. It's making me worry that the logbook isnt legit or something!

Spelling mistakes apart, that'd suggest that it's not the latest V5C.

You've checked the V5C doc ref on https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ and it's definitely the most recently issued?

That PO might not do tax, but it doesn't mean that no PO does tax... It certainly isn't "all online now".

when i do the vehicle enquiry on that site, all the correct details come up but it says 'The reference number you provided did not match the vehicle record.'

The new keeper supplement is a shorter reference number.

try this.
https://www.taxdisc.service.gov.uk/

Click the link for not having the V11 and then select new keeper supplement and try again.

Just checked a log book we have and it appears they add a digit to the beginning of the doc ref number on the green slip that isn't on the main v5. Miss the first digit off and see if that works online.

So odds are that the V5C slip you've been given isn't from the most recently issued V5C.

You might be lucky in not having taxed it yet... I read something the other day which appears to be a new scam - somebody buys a used car, taxes it at a PO, then finds their tax gets refunded to the car seller.

It seems to work like this :-
A has sold the car to B, given them the new keeper slip, and sent the main bit to DVLA.
B has SORNed the car, waited to receive the new V5C, sold the car to C, but given the new keeper slip from A's V5C to C.
C has then taxed the car - but for "B's ownership", so when B sends their V5C back, they get "their" newly purchased tax refunded...

So, have you been given the yellow section 9?

The only bit you should have is the green section 10.

The only "section" you need is the V5C/2 New Keeper slip, the green bit.
They should have filled in the main bit of the V5C, and sent it to Swansea. That's what generates the new V5C in your name.

If you don't think that's what's happened, then you'll need to fill in a V62 (from your local PO or online) and send that to Swansea. But you can't tax it until you get the V5C in your name, if you don't have the correct V5C/2.

TBH, it sounds more like stupidity than scam in this case, though... If they really have "done it as if you were trade", then they've sent the yellow slip to Swansea, and given you the main bit. If that has happened, then just fill your details in on the main bit and send it to Swansea yourself.

If they've given you the yellow bit, then they're illiterate idiots. But, without wanting to stereotype - "cooking" Saxo with VTR tupperware stuck to it, you said? Don't forget to tell your insurers about the modifications...

Just to check.

You are using the reference number of the green section 10 aren't you.
