My 07 d40 navara is an amazing car/truck. It's been super reliable, with only a slightly perished rear diff oil seal. It's Done 70k now and is a brilliant dive, if you enjoy its eccentric nature. They are fairly quick and surprisingly composed in the corner, but they are very fun to drive. Being able to control huge power oversteer in the wet with ease is fun. Iv had it up to 120 hill assisted, and it was intense. I would expect 6500 to 7000 if I was get rid, that's not too far off your budget. It's the most car like truck iv had.

Sliding it? I've found that they just flash the traction control light and bog down. I haven't driven an earlier than 2010 model though, maybe they have more intrusive systems.

I have considered a D-max but the lack of a proper mechanically actuated transfer box makes me a little nervous. I have to say the Ranger is out in front at the moment. I had considered the newer D40 Navara but I think they're a hideous looking beast of a thing and also a little flash for my taste, I'm used to Land Rovers!

In other news, the Dealer who was selling the L200 that boiled up on me called back yesterday and said that they'd replaced the water pump and cambelt and now it was running mint. he asked if I wanted to go see it again, I said I may pop up but I'm unsure. I've booked for France next year and we're taking the caravan, I've just got visions of the bloody thing boiling up on the way to Portsmouth from North Yorkshire. they all seem to be offering warranties but from what I can tell they're not worth the paper they're written on.

still undecided.

If you believed all the horror stories you'd never buy another vehicle again, less than 5% of D22's had the con rod fault I was told at a dealers. Nissan eventually extended warranties to 90K miles and 5 years IIRC for the engine.

Usually they were poorly maintained ones as well that went pop, mine I have had since new and is now 10 years old with 112K on the clock, no horror from the engine yet but it does get serviced by the book every 6,000 still by Nissan as the service prices have dropped to less than I was paying 6 years ago. No idea how or why but I don't complain.

It's not the best truck on the market now but in 2004 when I was looking it was the best out there. I shall drive mine into the ground now as I've thought about moving on once or twice before but it does everything required and in a decade has need one washer bottle pump, a starter motor and last month a new exhaust, tyres go for 40K miles, clutch and brake pads still original.

Lots get used on farms so get abused but find a clean one with history and you should be good to go.
Mine didn't even have the con rod problem, mine blew its turbo with about 45k on the clock. Nissan Didn't want to know and wanted (I think) £2,500 for a new one.

From memory the clutches cost a fortune as well and was a pig of a job to replace.

It was one thing after another with it and I was glad to see the back of it.

Mines an import from cypress and has no traction control, great fun especially with no load in the back.
