Not really, as I said, if converted properly expedition vehicles are really expensive.

Do you want to address my other comments, or don’t you have an answer to the Unicat pricing. To save you the effort, they have one used vehicle for sale on a MAN chassis at €340k. If you want to trek around the world and get off the beaten track you won’t do that in a converted bus so pointless comparison.

The huge difference with this is its rugged durability. You're not going to be taking this to a campsite in Wales for instance.
This is meant for Europe and far beyond. It'll take on desert terrain, rough mountain roads and generally go where no std fair camper van could.
The drive train/chassis and its components are virtually Unbreakable, the 6litre Cummins is put into much higher gvw trucks up to 14 tons, its well under stressed. This truck won't even be run in at 10k miles and is capable of big mileage.
Its is pricey but will appeal to those with more ambition than those who travel 50miles to put up a tent and awning on the side of their T5..

Why would it need engine work ? To do it properly will not be cheaper, did you look at Unicat, there is a load of info on there of what is required to build a proper expedition vehicle.

Is Ray Mears an expert on expedition campers ?

Clearly not a market/vehicle you are looking at, yet you seem an expert on costs. I assume you are looking at converted Transits or converting one yourself for a different use and therefore different requirements.

Yet the MoD is flogging them off for pennies on the pound because they don't have stockpile capacity to keep them stored. Drives me nuts, complete waste of money.

Here's one for this topic, a very tidy early E30 bmw 320i, low miles but low spec, 4 doors, budget tyres - £9995 anyone (yes £10k, not £995).

Presented in Polaris silver with complimentary Anthracite cloth interior. Sitting on its original wheels and shod with a decent set of tyres too.

What sets this car apart is that it is just a 5 owner example having covered just 55763 miles. It's in remarkable all round condition with no rust or rot to be found. I was particularly taken by the amazing condition of the dash which is like new and it's still fitted with the original Blaupunkt stereo! The service history is quite remarkable, a huge file of bills and receipts accompany the owners' handbook pack alongside every old MOT and 2 original keys. There's even the original bill of sale and letter to the first owner from Sales Manager of BMW Park Lane. It lists the car with extras Metallic paint, Electric sunroof, Power steering, Electric windows, Central locking, Alloy wheels, Blaupunkt Cambridge stereo + 4 speakers and electric aerial, Floor mats, Rear spoiler and single black stripe. How funny!

It's not quite Concours but a good 8/9 out of 10 and these seem to have a big following so surely some investment potential?

Usual dealer facilities - Delivery, PX, Competitive finance, and various other payment solutions.

Doesn't look that clean to me, it's just been tarted up. Bottom of the sills looks crusty, front and rear valances look a right state, trim looks worn and you can tell the plastics are likely worn beneath the £2 plastic polisher he used. An investment car should be something you'd enjoy whilst it grows in value, I don't see a poverty spec old rep car that's already massively overpriced doing either of those things. I hate these back street dealers that pay £2k for some old car then put it up for £10k, especially when you could spend the same money on an E30 that will actually appreciate and give you enjoyment of ownership.

The whole thing screams style rather than function. And if you're buying a humongous 4x4 truck based camper, function does kinda matter. For example, a winch would probably be more useful than the scatter cushions.

Yeah I agree on the purpose, but imo someone's netting £50k on that, and therefore overpriced.

Pick up an ex-army truck for at most £15k, even being generous there's another 30-40k of equipment costs in there. Most of it is using pretty cheap and nasty materials.
