Of course they are, but there are lots of potential punters out there from people too young to remember how mediocre they were when new, gear change excepted.

At least it's a decent write up by the seller explaining what he's done to it.
Serviced it AND did the cambelt and pump?

Doubt it. Traders valet then sell. Any that say they've done the cambelt too I doubt.

Very pricey for a 18yr old car with nothing special about it. 1,200 max IMO.

Had a bad experience for you to make such generalisations?

Would you throw £300-400+ actually servicing, replacing the cambelt before sale?

Or £15 valet and spiel.

Why would a trader actually do all that work when they know it's a great sell.

Sorry there's some great indie traders out there but why actually do a big major service.

Most just take lots of pics, clean the car and sell.

That is a gross generalisation. And also an unfair one on dealers whether big or small.

Even the better outlets will spend the minimum, in case car fails to sell . However if they are indeed better they will service the car in line with reasonable requests. That said, the punter may be baller advised to assume “it hasn’t been done” and barter down. Run it for a couple of weeks, then rectify faults if you intend to keep the car - avoid extended or add on warranties (imho).

Not to mention that the MOT ran out on the 18 March 2017. It's got a good MOT history before that, it looks in excellent nick, but it's still worth 1500 tops.

Not the most extreme one here, but £4k for an average Berlingo seems a bit high to me

Really? Why would they invest so much when all most punters care about is getting finance, monthly cost or price.

Not all punters do care about just that.

I bought a car at the end of last year - why did the dealer but 4 x Premium brand tyres on when every other trader would (according to your logic) put on the cheapest they could?

It’s all about margin.

How much was the car. Do you agree they wouldn't pour 500 of tyres into a 2000 retail car now would they.

Your combative stance is misguided.

Ah, ok, at the lower end of the market I dread to think what might or might not happen!

As is your prejudice.

Every sales place I've worked at have changed cambelts if they're due as part of the service. You do it because the actual costs are pretty low, certainly lower than if you don't change the belt and it snaps and you're left with an unhappy customer.

Maybe if you're buying at the very bottom end of the market from a driveway trader (and I'm aware there are some of these that are good), but it honestly isn't worth the aggro to not change a belt, especially if you're saying it's been done. And if you are shopping around at the very bottom of the market, then really you're far better off with a private sale.

Discovery imported from Thailand, assuming it was only used for poncing about it should be incredibly clean underneath.

However it is fitted with the 2.0 petrol engine so it's dangerously slow and ruinous on fuel.
Not sure why they didn't fit the turbo engine out of the Rover Tomcat, they would have been 20 years ahead of the game.
It's probably faster than the 300tdi.

Absolute premium tyres with Michelin and Conti only two types are “ funi muni”, however, there are several mid range, including Hankook which are more than fit for purpose, so .there is no need to fit budget budget. If these are fitted, negotiate discount and throw ‘em away.

At the lower, or even lowest, end you pay little but expect nothing. In this near throwaway market, in a significant minority of cases you will be pleasantly surprised. PH types can cope with this and move if the car is kept for a while in the direction of “ Classic”. However for many punters, buying half a car over 3 years makes sense.....but wait till this bubble bursts.

Most Ferraris do low mileage. They tend to be playthings for the very affluent or wannabe flash dudes who can’t afford to run them. Local exotic car dealer put it like this: “ all flash and no cash”. Either way most Ferrari won’t be in the Mondeo/Insignia league for digital mileage adjustment.

Okay... So Vauxhalls are starting to follow the 'Blue Badge' Ford Rose-Tinted price explosion...

...And Having grown up as part of the Max Power generation I can get a bit misty eyed over performance Vauxhalls too.

But seriously, £4K for a MK1 GTE with a dashboard from a clown car?.. Oh and bring a trailer to take your box of bits home with you.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-astra-mk1/3231...

Although in it's defense - I do remember Car-SOS saying their Astra MK1 restoration was one of the rarest cars they had ever done - so these must be very few and far between now.
