I know these are getting thin on the ground but with the dry rotting tyres and dirty interior £3k is a tad optimistic. Plus I noticed the same vendor has a Golf for sale too and they were asking £4500 for the saxo previously.

I really like the Orion, and it's pretty cool that it's not seen the light of day since the 80's, but that price is far fetched

Remember buying a couple of Orion Ghia's for 500 quidish, mate had the escort version of that Orion, non td, it was bloody slooow.
Always liked the way the Orion looked with it's Cortina rear end. Wasn't a popular Cortina mod to fit Orion rear lights?
That's the pic I was thinking of. 1st Gen Orion lights.

2000, BMW 750iL, 48k miles. One owner until earlier this year. Now 2 owners. Black with beige. £23,990. Extremely well specced.

Expensive, but find another?

That's some link to James Bond. I was thinking it was the car used in the film for a second.

Agree. I couldn't imagine spending that on it, but I bet someone will.

That looks like a very interesting yard!

Always wondered why they didn't do any performance / RS versions of the Orion (Onion).. I remember a few turbo conversions floating around in Max Power.

Nice enough car if high mileage, modified, non-original cars are your thing but certainly not £28k nice, perhaps half that at a (big) push.

Another case of someone expecting to recoup the full cost (and some) of their modifications.

Escort was seen as the sportier car rather than the more upmarket ( at the time ) Orion.

Ford did go as far as making a few rwd Orion shells but the costs of tooling up for a rwd shell put paid to the performance version as it would have cost more than an RS Sapphire. Sydney Meeke built one up with a BDG/Hart engine in and it was used briefly by Bertie Fisher ( they also let Barry McGuigan try it out )

Niall McShea used it for a while and most recently his cousin Paul ( now running a Vauxhall V6 engine )

The Orion Ghia was the performance model with the same 1.6 as the XR3i

and cheaper insurance. Which was why I saw a lot more friends and acquaintances of that era behind the wheel of Orion ghias rather than XR3is when we were <20.

They are pretty much the same size as a Mk2 Escort with a slightly wider track - small for a sports saloon.
A couple got converted to rwd by a local guy and had 2-litre Escort running gear put in.

Bought mine in 1997 at 21.
Insurance was £75 per month.
Not sure if that was good or bad, but I wanted an MG Maestro which was £600 TPFT.

I'd imagine more of a laugh to throw about too with that rear overhang.

I can't see those tyres being much use off-road. Better stick to Chelsea where it belongs with the other tractors.
