The MK3/4 weren't really any good either but at least they had the XR3i/RS1600i/RS Turbo to give them some kudos, even the hot MK5's were garbage, especially when you remember what Peugeot were offering at the time.
My first car in 1992 was a 1985 MK3 Escort 1.1 Popular and it was absolute rubbish and end of life even then at seven years old. I replaced it with a seven year old Peugeot 205 XS and that car was amazing in comparison.

I can't even begin to imagine how awful it must be to drive an Escort in 2021.

Once the rose tinted specs "reliving my youth" nostalgia wears off what do people do with these cars once they realise they hate driving them?

I figure this is about 5x the price one might expect for such an old car with cachet.

Honestly? Mental.

I can generally see why some cars are priced as they are, but for the life of me, I don't get this at all. Even in the scheme of Ford RS daftness, that's just nuts, imo.

Or a 360 Manual.

I'm not sure which is stupider, £75k for a MK2 Focus RS or that orange MK3 with a remap that was up at £85k. If you want to spend that much on a mass production car you can't actually use there's a 430 Challenge in the PH classifieds which would look much nicer stationary.

I think it is obviously an investment but can you see the car going to 150k, if there was ever a sign of peak bubble well this is it..

I see the Princess Di Escort (1981 W reg) made the BBC News this morning as it's coming to auction today. While I can see that someone might pay the £30k - £40k estimate due to its history, what I don't get is the auctioneers saying that this is 10 times what a car without the history would fetch, i.e. £3000 - £4000 for a 40 year old Escort, surely not!

£75k seems steep for a Focus despite the mileage compared to these:

I just can't grasp the money people ask for Fords. It's bonkers.

Think that's gone up in the last few weeks if anything. Same guy is trying to sell camera phone pictures of someone holding an ice cream for a million quid. Either trolling or certifiably mental.

Got to be to many '0's on there.

Aside from the way it looks, this description says it all, "Category S Insurance Loss. Vehicle Structurally Damaged But Repairable-Insurer Decided Not to Repair"

I wouldn't bother repairing it either...
