On the 50min drive home from work at 4am sunday morning, in a world of my own I was cycling several pro's and con's of owning my R32 through my head (mainly to keep my mind working and myself awake at that time of morning!). Thought this could be an interesting thread, and quite good to see if those who own the same cars think similarly on their choices.

List your car(s) and 3 things you love and hate about them!

'09 MK5 R32
I Love:
1.The Noise! Makes all the right noises that a little golf really shouldn't make.
2.Grip/Traction- Amazing in the dry, equally in the wet with PS3's - Truly Fantastic.
3.Interior luxuries / comfort- Heated leather/Sat Nav etc etc..has everything the average driver ever needs!

I Hate:
1.Short ratio gearing...Cruising at 70 in 6th it feels like there should be an extra gear
2.Boomy exhaust - at 2k revs the exhaust 'booms' and vanishes again there after
3.Certain cars it attracts, constantly have boy racer and rep cars glued to my rear bumper on motorways/fast roads with the attempt to spur me on.

Hate is quite a strong word, but I'll leave it as it is and see what your thoughts are!

1995 BMW 520i E34

Love:
1. 6 cylinder noise, especially past 4000 rpm.
2. The chiselled, simple, looks.
3. The smell of the interior

Hate:
1. The gearbox whine
2. The fact the boot struts are failing and the lid sometimes falls on my head.
3. The paranoia of "what will go wrong next?"

I appreciate that the 3 items I hate are things that are only wrong with it because I bought a poor example and haven't fixed all the faults yet...

I Love:
1.The boot, its huge. Good for dogs and bikes.
2.The engine, its effortless and lazy to drive.
3.Comfort - ride quality, seat comfort, stereo

I Hate:
1.Only having 5 gears, needs a 6th!
2.The dent in the rear quarter (not done by me)
3.The alloys, desperately need a refurb

Smart Roadster Coupe
Love;
-It's tiny! I have no need for space, so its great for parking/around town.
-Fuel consumption. 700cc turbo engine gets great MPG even if I rev the tits off it.
-It's different (for better or worse..)

Hate;
-The awful semi-automatic gearbox in stop-start traffic.
-Granted it's not a motorway mile muncher, but on the rare occasion its used on the motorway, the cabin is ridiculously loud.
-The fact that, while I'd love to take it to a main Merc dealer for work and servicing, I can't personally justify the ridiculous main dealer pricing for what is essentially an airfix car..

Citroën C4 Grand Picasso

Love:

Digital centre dash,
Cruise control/speed limiter,
Window blinds built into the back doors for the kids.

Hate:
MPG, I struggle to see 30 because of the stop/start driving I mostly do,
Revs too high at motorway speeds, needs a 6th gear,
Image, I drive a Citroën people carrier for God's sake.

Suzuki Ignis Sport '53

Love:
1. The ridiculous boxy, 'rude-boi', mini-MPV looks that give it character and rarity
2. It's tiny and I can park it anywhere and it gets no attention (useful where I live)
3. The way it flys along roads and I get to try and keep up with much more interesting things with varying success.

Hate:
1. The road noise and general discomfort at anything over 50mph
2. The crap exhaust noise compared to my previous car's lovely V6 rumble
3. It is a bit on the slow side in a straight line compared to anything modern with a modicum of oomph (Fiesta ST, 182s etc)

1998 E36 328i

Love:
1. The Noise, especially after 4.5krpm where vanos kicks in
2. The Handling. Decent suspension and LSD make it great fun to drive
3. The fact it's old and easy to work on and has no real electronic assistance on anything.

Hate:
1. The crap driving position
2. The reputation that it brings
3. The fact that it's old as it needs maintenance fairly regularly.

Feb 2014 M135i (F21, auto)

Love:
1. The 6 cylinder engine - silky smooth and so flexible
2. The sound - especially on a cold start up (neighbours will disagree!)
3. The power - popping into sport mode the power and throttle response is incredible and it still as intoxicating and addictive as when I first tried it.

'Hate':
1. Stupid stop start system (although there's a button to prevent it)
2. Fear of what will happen to it (especially after some idiot crashed into it when it was parked and then drove off).
3. The fact I need a £50 cable to plug my phone in to play music (or pay £300 to spec Enhanced Bluetooth when it was built).

2008 Z4M Coupe
Love
1. Rare, one of only two in the country in space grey and only 500 or so in total and looks great.
2. Engine one of the best sixes ever made, sounds great, plenty of power and mapped so it knows you are blipping a down change with your foot on the brake so it changes the throttle map.
3. M-Diff, finds loads of traction when you want it but lets you have fun when it knows you are fooling around.

Hates all fairly minor
1. Open to the rear hatch so wet stuff in the boot steams up the interior.
2. Bonnet so long you are sticking half out into traffic before you can see if it is clear at some junctions.
3. Steering wheel rim a bit too thick.

MK2 MR2

Love:
Pop-up headlights
Seating position, everything is exactly where it needs to be
T-top roof

Hate:
The fear of it being my only car when the roads are icy.
The amount of times brake callipers seize.
The amount of people that just don't "get" pop-up lights.

Smart Roadster

Good:
Fun - genuinely a laugh to drive, even at the speed limit; puts a smile on my face
MPG - hard to get below 50mpg even when driving like a tit
Looks - definitely a 'marmite' car but it gets so much attention (most of it good)

Bad:
Bit noisy on the motorway (needs a better radio!)
worry about and trying to fix the occasional leak
Have to travel to find a good indy for servicing

2005 530d BMW

Loves:
1. Like the effortless diesel power for overtakes, mid punch 40 - 60 type stuff for overtaking hat wearing old boys in Honda Jazz on the A29.
2. Comfy and relaxing motorway muncher, MPG varies massively from town too.
3. Lots of cup holders

Hates:
1. Too many others on the Road, and BMW owner assumptions
2. Awful steering feel, or lack of.. overly weighted and odd to me (my 1977 yank tank with poly bushes is better)
3. stupid indicators that won't lock or cancel, making drivers behind think you can't make your mind up

1982 Classic Mini with ZCARS VTEC Conversion

Love:
1. The sheer drive of the thing. It's a rocketship with a visceral experience combining sound, feel and smell!!

2. The community of other Mini and fast car owners that I have met and spend time with since owning. I had to join a Mini owners club as part of my car insurance. It's been one of the greatest sign ups I've made with many events covered with strangers that are now friends. I've been to a few Pistonheads events for drives out and charity runs, all have been great fun!

3. The cheapness for parts. There are more Mini's in bits than on the road. There are more Honda Type R's being broken each week. There are large stockists around the world for the JDM and Classic car scene to pull from for replacement bits and bobs with each being really affordable considering the pace that she puts out.

Hate:
1. Limitation of when to drive. It's not very good in the damp, its terrible in the wet, it's suicidal to venture out in anything colder. Traffic can be a ball ache with a paddle clutch (but I've joined a spinning class over the Winter which should help!).

2. It's loud. Very loud. Once the Sun has gone down, I'm stuck with a car that is very fast and consequently so, quite ASBO loud so late night expeditions are a no no trying to get home. I've already had a letter through from the council even though I am well within the legal limit for noise but hey ho, it's subjective according to the neighbours at my lockup.

3. The technical opinions and conversations that come with the territory. I'm a driver. I know how to drive, I know when things feel right and when they don't but I'm no mechanical expert. I find myself at shows, car parks, petrol stations re-running through the same conversation but with a different recipient at times. It honestly doesn't make me hate that this happens but it can be quite grinding spending 20 minutes chatting to someone and then they ask something like "Which motorbike is the engine from again?". I shouldn't really complain as it is a given that being different it would attract attention. I think I'm just a bit reserved as when you go through the figures of the car I feel at times it is gloating. To get around that I've just printed a spec sheet and leave that in the car windscreen when it's on display.

2014 Suzuki Swift Sport.

Love.
1. The way it drives...old school fun here not rapid fast but quick enough, great handling and brakes.
2. Not too many of them about.
3. Piles of standard kit...there's no optional extras.

Hate.
1. Really hate the wheels, ugly and a pain to clean.
2. Not having it before now...should have bought one ages ago.
3. Struggling for the last one, can't think of anything else....sorry.

2. Gets good mpg when you try.
3. Cheaper on insurance than most other similar cars

Hate.
1. The fking soft top motor
2. Main dealer servicing cost

There's not much to dislike about my V70, so I'll use my old Mk1 Escort instead.

I loved;

1. The noise, tuned Crossflow sucking through open 45 DCOEs into a single box exhaust.

2. Bilstein coil over suspension, adjustable top mounts and up rated ARB with a quick rack, handled smooth tarmac with ease, great fun.

3. The gearbox, RS2000 Rocket box, four speed, with a 4.1:1 diff, fabulous acceleration.

I hated;

1. The noise. Used to be very tiring on the motorway, no soundproofing or carpets, the whole cabin used to drone away, earplugs needed for any sort of distance work.

2. Suspension was rock hard, it used to tramline everywhere due to the negative camber, crash over the slightest road surface imperfections, and it was a nightmare to park as the steering was so heavy at walking pace.

3. The gearbox and final drive was bloody awful above 60 miles an hour, engine screaming away in top gear at motorway speeds, shocking fuel economy.

Would I have another? Oh, yes.

As a daily driver? No.
