2012 Golf GTi

LOVE:

1. The looks - got 19 inch wheels, which are pretty rare!
2. Having a heated windscreen. icey to clear within 2 minutes!
3. The power (obviously). this is my first 'fast car' so it feels fast!!

HATE (all minor issues)

1. The cost of the aforementioned tyres!
2. The fact the car has to be revved hard to get good power. could do with a remap!
3. MPG. Can only get into the 30s with very calm driving.

The engine is punchy

PORSCHE 968CS

Love.

1. Everything.

Hate.

1. Nothing, even niggles like the drivers window rattling from time to time can be shifted into 'endearing'

Most TVR drivers will confirm that some cars do that...

PORSCHE BOXSTER 986 S ANNIVERSARY (Manual)

Loves
-the mechanical feel (engine noises / steering weight & feel/ firm suspension)
-the amount of roadtrip storage the car has for a 2 seater
-roof down convertible Porsche experience (see above 2 points)

Dislikes
-It's a 2004 model which means it started to get a few bits iof annoying modern tech gizmos over my previous 2000 model Boxster, namely bongs for seat-belts unfastened & lights
-standard exhaust/induction sound could be rortier
-not keen on the seal grey standard wheel centres, prefer traditional silver

VW CORRADO VR6 STORM (Manual)

Loves
-the speed activated electric rear spoiler always makes me smile when it does it's thing
-the way it smells
-the bark of the engine with the Milltek exhaust & BMC Carbon induction

DISLIKES
-standard ride height
-lack of air conditioning on my car (and most others)
-the fact VW discontinued it far too early and I wasn't able to purchase one new

2008 Alfa 159 Estate:

Love:
The way it looks from the outside
The way it looks from the inside
"What are you driving these days?" "oh, I've got an Alfa".

Hate:
It's a diesel that really struggles to get 45mpg
Its over-engineered chassis making all bushes and joints fail.
"Oh, you've got an Alfa, I'll ring green flag".

2003 Nissan 350z

Love
1) noise from the exhaust when warm - sounds magic over about 3,000rpm, and theres a good few pops and crackles from the exhaust when blipping the throttle.
2) comfy seats and cruise control, such a good mile muncher - could happily set the cruise on a motorway and do 400 miles and feel fresh as a daisy at the other end.
3) reliability - had it for three years and its been perfectly reliable, never had a problem with it despite making good use of the engine.

Hate
1) drivers side window doesnt work - so have to open the door and stretch round at tollbooths and car park ticket machines
2) lack of bootspace, and lack of rear seats - great for just me and my gf, but if we visit anyone or need to take a lot of stuff, have to take the gfs 1.1 litre 206.
3) boot struts that dont work when cold - and believe me a heavy bootlid falling on your head hurts!

2000 BMW 330ci (track car)

Love
1) despite having no interior, its still a really comfortable place to sit on a long drive to a trackday (still have the standard seats and cruise control in)
2) handling on the limit - when the rear does let go, does it so gently, such an easy car to powerslide.
3) sound of the straight 6 engine - even with the standard exhaust it revs so cleanly, its like a turbine.

Hate
1) A/c and interior fans dont work - takes aaaages to heat the car up in winter, and clear condensation from windows.
2) boot lid occasionally doesnt latch, quite annoying.
3) whoever had the car before me put the wrong size tyres on, and they're all fairly budget and none match - makes for interesting handling on track, and we need to wear them all down before we can replace them with something decent.

1) arches made of wet newspaper
2) crap horn noise
3) Being on 1st name terms with the guy that my shell garage

2012 VW Golf 2.0 Tdi Bluemotion

Love:
Quality: feel of- well, just about everything.

Level of kit: Match spec, so parking sensors, DAB radio, leather with heated seats, etc, etc.

The engine: Torquey, does everything right for a commuter, including 60+mpg.

Don't love:
Aerodynamics: The rear of the car gets filthy in no time at all. This indicates a massive low pressure area and unnecessary drag. Come on, VW. You can do better.

The door mirrors appear to have been designed for the specific purpose of holding water. This is most noticeable when the car has been washed - water then dribbles out over the following 24 hours, as long as the car is being driven.

Nothing else, really.

Honda S2000:

Love:
The engine. The feeling that it is probably one of the greatest four-cylinder engines ever made.

The gearbox. The over-use of the phrase "rifle-bolt action" by the press means that I can't describe the change as operating with a rifle bolt action, but it does.

Handling: 50:50 weight distribution and a low polar moment of inertia means that it responds instantly to steering inputs.

Don't love:
In cold weather all non-metallic parts in the suspension, which is so good in normal circumstances, become rock hard, and transmit road imperfections directly to the cockpit where they are turned into noise and amplified by the hard top.

The demand to keep having the suspension geometry checked, as it's so important.

Parking in confined spaces. The bodywork is a bit bulgy and you can't see any of the extremities from the driver's seat.

Ep3 Civic Type R

Things I love:

1) The noise, especially with a straight through exhaust with middle silencer removed and spoon n1 rear box, sounds like a BTCC car all the way up to 8k.
2) The looks, looks great for a 13 year old design.
3) The gearbox, great ratios that make the car feel faster than it is.

Things I hate:

1) The reputation/attention, as mentioned by someone else, diesel audis/bmws love to try and provoke drag races, despite me removing any and all badges that mention 'Type R' apart from the red H badges.
2) The interior and uncomfortable seats, meaning I had to upgrade to some red recaros from a DC2.
3) Thin paint.

Love:
- The white/black combo. It's like they actually thought about it.
- The torque
- The comfort, actually driver focused.

Hate:
- The white bit of the white/black combo. It's now dirt/black
- It's diesel, so just not "the same".
- "individual" setting is good, but I need 2 or three configurables.

'64 Ariel Atom 3.5 SC
Love:
- It's different
- It's fast
- You're connected when you drive it

Hate:
- Don't get to drive it enough
- I've got to re-learn braking with no ABS to save me.
- Being anonymous in it only works while you're wearing a helmet.

LOVE:

1) The way it looks
2) The interior
3) The fact it is two cars in one with a folding tin top

HATE

1) The bloody runflat tyres! (I appreciate I can do something about this)
2) The ride (perhaps hate is a tad strong - it could be sooooo much better though)
3) The standard stereo is pish (which is a bit of a disgrace considering the list price)

Cheers

Mk1 Fabia vrs

I love:

1.The drive, so much mid range punch for a small car! Effortless overtaking. Can and have surprised many performance cars. Grips very well too.
2. The rarity, hardly ever see one!
3. The economy, 40mpg minimum, 60mpg on a run.

I hate:

1. It's a diesel
2. Sounds like a tractor
3. It's a diesel

Love : The VTEC 8000 rpm is never going to get boring. A great engine
The 6 speed manual gearbox
The bucket seats
The space in the back. It's van like with the bench seat folded down

Hate: The ride. It is as bad as they say
The lack of any proper sat nav, infotainment screen
The squeaky brakes. 4 th set of O.E.M pads and they have all squeaked
The squeaky clutch pedal. Various repairs attempted has not solved the issue. Sounds like I'm stamping on a hamster

The Aygo
Love the running costs and the total reliability.
Hate nothing though the gearbox could be better and it does steam up rather too easily. A bit more power would be nice but then I'd be kissing goodbye to 55MPG.

The Leaf
Love everything really, it's exactly the car I expected and more besides.
Hate nothing, but of course a bigger range would be useful.

i) The ride / handling compromise
ii) The build quality
iii) The interior lighting

Hate :

ii)......

See, it's the first BMW I've ever owned and I can see - after 12 months of ownership - why the E39 blitzed group tests back in the day. When it pops its clogs (it's on 192,000 at the mo), I can't see getting anything else apart from a W126 Merc, a E38 7-Series, or another E39.

1999 BMW E39 M5.

Love.
1. The noise and the engine - the back box delete really makes these bark!
2. The overall simplicity - not too much by way of electronics for it to go wrong.
3. The handling - it tells you weeks in advance of what it is going to do so that you're fully prepared for it.

Hate.
1. The noise when my Euchasian Tube disorder is playing up - makes my ears ring.
2. It isn't quick enough.
3. The bills when things go wrong / parts need replacing.
