I spoke to Katie yesterday about gap insurance on my leased car - I was impressed at how well she knew her product and the price was right too.

One interesting thing was their excess insurance - I'd just renewed my car insurance and I whacked the excess up to 650 which knocked over a hundred pounds off the premium. Then insure the excess for 44 pounds. Winner!

I'll be taking this out as soon as I get home tomorrow.

Sorted out some GAP insurance last week but for some reason the website wouldnt let me put a card numbe in. I gave up with the intention of trying again later but had a cal from Katie who sorted it all out there and then and I had the policy within minutes.

Really good service and by far the cheapest with the PH discount smile

Quick product question.
I bought an ex-demo Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 2 weeks ago. Car is 6mths old and I paid £33.5k. However, most similar cars at dealers are circa 40k (I got lucky as it was ex-demo) therefore would you suggest vehicle replacement rather then RTI? If vehicle replacement do I enter the 40k as a figure? What if something happens in yr 2 - does the GAP pay out the diff between insurance and another 6 mth old car or just insurance versus what would then be the cost to replace with a now 2 year old car?

Hi Zippee,

Thanks for getting in touch.

It does sound like a very good deal! If you do purchase the Vehicle Replacement + policy we would be paying the difference between your insurer's settlement and the replacement cost of another pre-registered car of the same make, model and specification (no older than the original at the time of purchase and with no more miles).

In your example, it would be your insurer that would cover the cost of the two-year old car- we're then covering the shortfall so that you are back in the position you were in when you first bought the car so that you are able to purchase an equivalent car which is around 6 months old.

I hope this helps but if you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks Katie, so to confirm, in terms of value you'd recommend around the 40k mark? I'm guessing that's not too important? More important is the level of cover amount?

Hi Zippee,

Sorry, if you negotiated discount with the dealer to get to the price of £33,500 then you would put in the price the car was being advertised at. If the full cost of the car (as advertised) was the £33,500 then it would be better to use that price and you can increase the level of cover if you wish.

And don't forget your PISTON12 discount biggrin

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Katie,

Got my leased car delivered more than a month ago but yet to buy GAP insurance.
Is that possible to adjust the term of cover for my lease which is less than 2 years now?

There is drop-down term of cover menu on your website but no free text field to adjust the term.

Hi SlimPollack

Thanks for getting in touch.

We can only provide terms of cover which equate to full years, and we don't have the ability to put in a specific term.

However, if you do change your car before the policy ends any pro rata, unused premium can be credited against your next policy.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Katie
