MR Dan, greetings, I very much like your shiny Helmet in this included video, unfortunately I do not like the AUDI! I find them to be like my mother in law, SOULLESS! 'They are touted as luxury cars (and have the stupid tax added as a result) even though they are the Lemmings of Japan I feel very overrated MR Dan much better go for VW or German Mercedes!

Thought it looked ok in pictures then saw it at goodwood and thought............ 'yeah, it looks alright'. Interior looks pretty boring and the exterior is worse looking then the old car. Real shame, thought in person it would be pretty but just bland and very much a large TT.

Again, that interior is bloody boring looking in person.

I've not seen that latest R8 in the metal but the styling just doesn't work for me. It looks awkward and doesn't flow.
It made a brief appearance at the end of the latest avengers movie, though I'm sure it's a wonder piece of kit, it does nothing for me at all.

I agree totally with you MR. Jam 12321, we have a saying in Japan "If you have sexual relations with a fish, don't be surprise if you babies smell like fish"

The TT looks better than ever to these eyes but I agree about the original R8. - One of the best, most well-resolved designs of the last decade IMO and this new model looks generic next to it. I'm with those of you that share a preference for the original.

Can anyone comment on how usable they are as a daily in reality? Could you use one as you would a TT / Z4 etc.?
Mine is my only car and it gets used for grocery runs, commuting etc. Apart from a firm ride and obvious lack of space its a normal Audi and can be used as such. Only surprising daily inconveniences are, the front boot/trunk gets way too hot due to the cooling fans so ice cream should go behind the seats, speed bumps are the bane of my life and it's a bloody low wide 2 door so it's not possible to climb out of parking spaces gracefully.

That said it goes like stink, has a great noise and looks more dramatic than the alternatives.

It looks immeasurably better in blue with silver wheels.

Why do modern super cars seems to come with a sting in the tail? Ok, I can't exactly afford one, but halo cars should be aspirational. Now they seem to be mostly about paper figures frown

V10? awesome, but no manual option.
Great looks? Yes, the corporate 'family' look dilutes the uniqueness somewhat.

Oh, and hopefully there is a delete option for that spoiler. It just ruins the smooth flowing lines frown

The best thing about the R8 is it makes the TT look an absolute bargain!

Audi - one car in 56 sizes. As such, the cheaper ones seem massively better value to me.

Looks rather too much like a TT.

And I quite like it for that. (Hey, I'm weird that way)

I'll admit I'm not the biggest R8 fan in the world, always thought they were overhyped and only really appealed to a certain type of person.

But anyway, all meaningful stuff regarding performance etc aside, this new R8 looks so much like a German tuning company has had its way with a new TT! Really does just look like a kitted up TT, even the side profile on that red one looks off to me.

I think back looks pretty nice, interior looks lovely, but other than that the looks are a thumbs down from me. Makes the original one look a lot cooler!

That red one is epic looking. I agree that its not as pretty as the first effort but it looks much more aggressive as a result.

I landed in Faro yesterday lunchtime and saw them all waiting to go out on their test drives.

In all honesty the design left me a bit cold, and the 'plus' makes the regular one look rather bland, but the noise they make is wonderful!

A few phone pics in the peak day 40deg sun...

Standard model showing that Audi still haven't managed to make their cars with the ability to be parked in one parking space there hehe

I like the R8, its a supercar with a lower case s, it is almost subtle, toned down as not everyone wants to make quite such a statement, it is more a 911 rival than a Lamborghini or Ferrari rival, it doesnt mean it is boring, I was very impressed with the V8 I drove, it is not just a faster TT, it is still a mid engined supercar, but doesnt feel in certain circumstances like arriving wearing a 70s Glam Rock costume, Mclaren manage to pull this off as well, though a lot of it is colour sensitive, Audi dont tend to do the eye searing shades.

Stage 1 remap is north of 400bhp, but you'd really want one of the Stage 3 GT BB kits, they're about 560bhp.

They're heavy things though, iron block and something like 185kg minus ancillaries. The older 5.2 V10 is only 220 without ancillaries!
Despite not being as lights as you'd maybe think, it still seems ideal for an entry-level R8...obviously though they'd peg the power low enough so as not to be biting at the ankles of the V10. At least it's a turbo lump with character, which is more than can be said of most nowadays!
