...answer any of the more specific questions that may come up :-)
Will there be a pair of red and yellow classic racing minis?
Pretty please?

Would it be possible to have a wider track in future?
Looking at the speeds they are able to go they look quite tricky to control on a such a narrow track.

Looks brilliant, definitely fancy getting my hands on one of these - any plans to get the sets selling anywhere other than Argos? Also, when are extra track pieces and spare cars/controllers likely to go on sale?
We will have news about product release date of accessory packs shortly!

With regards to whether you can get it anywhere other than Argos, initial stock is going out to stores now – try Argos, Toys R Us or The Entertainer in the first instance. More stock will be coming into the UK during August and will go out to other retailers :-)

I guess I'm showing my age too, cos I think that would be really nice too!

Yes, a wider track is possible, though the real challenge is to improve your skills, rather than widen the goalposts ;-)
One of the track parts in the accessory sets will be a bottleneck, so the cars get squeezed in as you enter. Timing obviously important for that part of the track, a bit like a game of chicken!

Seriously, you are joking aren't you.

Tragically, Rupert's awkward social interaction and bed wetting problems have been largely ignored by an overworked and underfunded health service, so he is unlikely to receive the treatment he so badly needs to become a functional member of society in the future.

I got a set when it was backed on Kickstarter and I can confirm it's great fun. I believe there have been a few tweaks since the Kickstarter sets were produced but the basics are still the same.

The controllers are really nice to handle and are a good size and weight. Same goes for the cars, they're really well made. The virtual problems (like an oil spill) add a fun element when you're racing friends and family.

The cars can be a little tricky to handle at first but once you get into the groove you can have some good racing. It’s definitely more involved than Scalextric but the auto mode does a good job at helping those who are a bit young (or just not very good) to get around the track.

The only issue I’ve had with it is that it needs a good amount of space to set up the track. If you’ve only got a small box room then you may struggle to create a workable track. But this is PH so everyone lives in a 5 bedroom mansion right?

I uploaded some photos and videos (pretty basic video showing the AI driving) when we were discussing the item in the 'computing and gadgets' forum but it gives you an idea of the quality and the controllers in action. You can view them here

I’d highly recommend giving it a go.

If I was to buy two sets, would I be able to build a track twice as long and run all four cars on it?

Pretty much, yes. You can mix & match to your hearts content - And you could have split lap times too if you wanted, as you would have two starting grid parts :-)

I guess grahamtaylor will be along to correct me, but the underlying chassis is a modified Kyosho RC car... I was too busy having fun driving the car around off the track to listen intently.

It is very much radio control racing with assist though, and the lap times coming out of the controllers was a nice feature.

Yes - Our proof of concepts prototypes were all built by modying Kyosho Mini-Zs... they have great control precision, which is what we need in our system. The production cars have been designed from the ground up (even the servos & steering linkages have been custom engineered) to get the same extent of control, but also replicate how real cars would behave when raced on a track.

I had a few mini z's and they were great fun. Had a formula one car and off roarer among others. Just a bit peed off that kickstarted doesn't suggest any of these things to support and instead pushes weird albums and storybooks even though most of the stuff I have backed is tech! Off to Argos now!

Please tell me you have thought about what I am going to write next...

Many many nerd mancave Bob with no friends is build around a scalex track with a zillion hours in diorama, scenery etc... so obviously you know this and you have replicated the width and thickness of a standard scalex straight in your track modules....

Bums squeezed tight awaiting answer.

Sorry Michel!
I'm afraid you would need to reposition your scenery.
Our track is a shade under 32 cm wide. We need that extra width for good reason. Slot racers are held in a slot, so there is no real steering manoeuvring to be had, and because cars are stuck in this rut (sorry, couldn't help myself ;-) they don't need any space to cope with over / under steering
To truly race around a track and replicate real life, you need the track to be several cars width.

I'm fully expecting these to be hacked and for people to try to make better AI. That could be an extra layer of fun.

Looks brilliant, really hope you get the manufacturer's on board for licenced vehicles.

May I make a suggestion for a Bullitt themed set? cloud9

The controllers don't HAVE to play the theme tune... hehe

how many cars can you run on one track?
can the AI cars overtake intelligently ? or do they just follow a circuit?

Well, it looks like a cracking move forward on Scalectrix.

Good luck. I hope it does as well.

What would be really great would be a video camera in the car and the ability to drive the car via a games console and screen with pedals and wheel - although I suppose not many people would have two gaming rigs in the same room.
