Tyre fitting companies not wanting to fit your tyres?

You've all got me feeling really guilty. Our local garage swaps winter tyres on 4 cars for us every year, never charges for puncture repairs, does minor stuff like sidelight bulbs at MOT, all free of charge.
They do our MOTs, and we buy our tyres and exhausts from them but other than that they don't get much business from us as I do most repairs and servicing myself. I've asked the owner to charge me for this stuff but he just shrugs and says he does fine as it is. The guys get a wee bung for the drinks fund at Christmas and seem happy at that.
This is how my Dad runs his garage, and the reason it will never be a thriving business. Its good for people like you, but it is no way to run a business. Fast-Fit on the Cambridge St in St Neots, Cambs
Never had an issue taking tyres in there to be fitted, either on the vehicle or as a pile of wheels, £5 a corner sounds about right
That's good to hear. I need to get 4 winter tyres fitted to my spare set of wheels next week and was planning to take them to Fast Fit in Cambridge (Histon Road). Hopefully they'll be similarly priced!Never had an issue taking tyres in there to be fitted, either on the vehicle or as a pile of wheels, £5 a corner sounds about right

Kwik Fit have been wise to the on-line tyre business for ages, so if you book online, in 95% of cases you won't be able to get them supplied and fitted with any worthwhile saving.
e.g. Kwik Fit online tyres quote your Goodyears @ £113 each total fitted including disposal (free mobile fitting if 2 or more).
They also frequently do further discounts.
Just checked your correct, mobile fitting free if you have all 4 e.g. Kwik Fit online tyres quote your Goodyears @ £113 each total fitted including disposal (free mobile fitting if 2 or more).

Is a good deal tbh cheers for the heads up
Though I have just checked my local f1 centre and found them to be even cheaper at £106 fitted !
the only negative I can say really is that I like jacking up my own cars but that's just me and previous monkeys trashing my sills and a fuel tank many moons ago, seems they want some trade back

Yes, I found the same - National are pretty much the most expensive place. A mate has an AA membership and told me he gets 40% off retail price of tyres at National, except their retail price is ridiculous. I've just put the same as you (though 225/40/18) on, National price was £130 against a £200-odd retail price. Eventually bought them at F1 Autocentre, £110 each if you walk in off the street, or £84 each if you pre-order on line, all in.
I asked a local HiQ about fitting tyres if I buy them online, they said they charge £1/inch to fit, so £18 a corner for me. Added to that I could probably get one tyre in the car so have to factor in four trips to get them there. Buying the tyres from Camskil (if you can find your way through the terrible web site) saved me about £5 a tyre, nowhere near enough to get them fitted around here.

I find it a strange policy to employ because :
a) If you use winter tyres you may be someone who occasionally buys the odd extra tyre compared to average Joe
b) Now that they've both annoyed you, you're hardly likely to ever use them for any tyres in future.
Business must be too easy for these big chains. They don't know what Customer service is anymore

Clearly exceptional customer service has no place in a good business As Bill Gates said to Homer Simpson "I didn't get rich by writing cheques Homer."

Goodyear eagle f1 assy 2 235/40/18 national tyres price £143.90 each fitted
Tyreleader yesterday charging £98.90 deliverd for the same tyre !
Tyreleader yesterday charging £98.90 deliverd for the same tyre !
They will be fitted by National who will get them delivered direct so you don't have to cart them around. You'll get 5% off for spending £200+ with a code and 4% cashback through the usual culprits. So you're looking a £95 fitted locally. Or £107 for the non Ford version (probably identical).
I was browsing yesterday as I'm due some very soon, have been using a combination of tyreleader and camskill for a couple of years now as all the local usual tyre shops could not even get close and have either fitted them myself due to having a machine at work, but know relying on getting them fitted but it now seems things have changed at least with goodyears anyhow good stuff....
Well I'm the same but I always chose what I want and don't deviate from that, I don't do ditchfinders,
Last year I bought 4 tyres for my touring the rears being a bit wider at 255 nobody got anywhere near tyreleader
Believe me I'm tight I checked but things look to have changed a bit since then

Prices change daily though, tyres seem to be traded like commodity ! It's a case by case really, sometimes it's still cheaper to get them through Tyre leader. I just bought 4 Nokian D4 winters 224 45 17 for £300 from them which is unbeatable even with the £10 fitting charge.Bizarelly, Kwik Fit home fitting were the cheapest by far a few month ago for GY Eagles for the GT86.
I used to be involved in the tyre game, and it was a game.
Basically there are no retail prices, just cost prices.
Which vary wildly between suppliers, volume deals, special offers etc.
We used to work on cost plus 25% plus around £10 for fitting/valve/balance/disposal plus VAT.
So if a tyre cost you £20 you'd add on £5 plus the £10 = £35 + the VAT so £42 selling price.
We found to try and stay competitive on the bigger more expensive tyres the 25% profit margin would shrink well below that and you'd be working on a £x per tyre profit instead of a percentage.
We would fit tyres supplied by the customer, we'd engage in a conversation about the whys and wherefores and find out what they'd paid and where from. We would simply ask that the next time they needed tyres they'd give us the chance to match or beat the deal they'd found elsewhere. Worked quite well and we used the opportunity of having the car in the shop to run a simple health check on it. By doing that we'd sell the odd bulb, set of wipers, brake pads etc. Basically playing the long game and respecting the fact that people have choices.
