Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc???????
Discussion
Don't really understand why people feel the source of the income is important.
If Richard Branson started Virgin with a £10k loan from his Dad, would that mean his business empire is just one big lie?
A massive proportion of businesses got going with investment from outside. How long did it take Amazon or Google or many other household-name businesses to turn any form of meaningful profit?
I find the whole vacuous supercar chasing thing childish and pointless, but the point is Shmee has tapped in and monetised it before the market saturated. Possibly well enough that as an individual he's set himself up for a long time.
You don't have to be what you sell to!

Tim took part in the Mini Challenge at Rockingham over the weekend - didn't quite get a podium position,... but there were some big names on the leaderboard, and a noticeable absence of any other YT vloggers. - https://www.facebook.com/MINIChallengeUK/
It'll be interesting to see how the coverage converts into views - as alluded to a few times, the target demographic seems more interested in carbon fibre wings and titanium exhausts, rather than the practical application of such items in a competitive environment.
At the end of it though, these guys are pretty much running a commercial operation - if a load of time and effort creating content doesn't convert into views/revenue, then it doesn't make sense to focus on that aspect.
only 5 secs a lap of the winning pace, damn impressive for a vlogger with very limited track experience It'll be interesting to see how the coverage converts into views - as alluded to a few times, the target demographic seems more interested in carbon fibre wings and titanium exhausts, rather than the practical application of such items in a competitive environment.

I'm starting to feel like the drive to constantly post content is starting to make the videos of the big UK auto vloggers get very stale for me.
on the recent road trip with a load of the bigger channels there is only so much interest for me in watching such similar content posted by about 4 people.

You all forget Tim has a MAJOR advantage. He is only about 3 ft tall and therefore also probably weighs next to nothing giving him a major weight saving advantage when racing. Kinda like a smurf or an oompa loompa....
Strange comment. Everything OK at home?frankenstein12 said:
Yes fine thanks.
That is wonderful to hear. I find usually people posting abuse are the ones hurt themselves. I am guessing things are not so good so thats why you take to the keyboard to write some inane abuse/joke about shmee being short. Hope things get better for you. johnwilliams77 said:

In that poster's defence, I just read it as a mild off the cuff comment. Not that bhy.
Fair enough. As I mentioned, I don't watch much of UK car vloggers, including shmee, I find it useful/interesting to see what he has to say about youtube/other questions people have.Glade said:

I agree. I think SoL, STG, JWW and Seb all probably share a huge number of subscribers, so if I were them I'd be sitting down and having meetings, deciding who was going to post what aspect of the road trip. The same thing from 4 perspectives is somewhat silly, would prefer some better content that they each have more time to prepare. on the recent road trip with a load of the bigger channels there is only so much interest for me in watching such similar content posted by about 4 people.

Shmee - slightly morbid question but given you rack up a load of miles do you have a plan in place if ever you were involved in a serious accident? I know you can control what you do behind the wheel but you can't control others.
It's something we do have plans around yes, because ultimately if something happens to me that is a problem for the guys that make their living from me.I started pondering this issue quite a while back as the numbers grew, it's not only the continuation of content but also what happens to existing revenue streams etc and how do you manage an online network without knowing the full ins and outs.

Shmee is not some demi god who cannot take a jokey comment. If he was I wouldn't be able to reply to you as he would most likely have struck me down with a bolt of Shmee blue lightning.

Unlike a large proportion of the rest of us even if something does go wrong he is fortunate enough to have got himself to a place financially where recovering from a serious accident should not cause him any major financial hardship. His biggest issue would probably be loss of subs or views due to viewers being rather short attention spanned. Should it go truly wrong no doubt he has a will to cover those options.
Sadly you cannot account for every possible scenario or problem in life and you cannot account for every idiot on the road other than by being that more careful and aware in how you drive.
Good video from STG on the new McLaren 720S where he says 'shock horror' that he doesn't like it that much.
Seems to be what I was expecting to hear about it, immensely fast and hugely capable but perhaps just a bit too good to really love.
Very refreshing to hear something which isn't just gushing praise though, especially given he's a McLaren owner and self confessed fan boy.
Not seen the other Youtubers vids yet but will be interesting to see what they think of it, especially Mr JWW as he has one on order.

Jww, let me guess: awesome, epic, words cannot describe how good, lost for words, speechlesss, don't have vocabulary to describe Seems to be what I was expecting to hear about it, immensely fast and hugely capable but perhaps just a bit too good to really love.

There is a snippet of him in SOL's video and that's not the case. He also seemed a bit 'meh' about it.Be interesting to see if he cancels his order.

Have you watched the MrJWW video? John wasn't too far wrong at points
I just watched it,it was actually quite enjoyable. Quite Harris esq with extreme statements about the car having wings and it would fly but that's ok by me.Edit: for some reason, https://youtu.be/KYl3s0Mo3lo is significantly easier to watch. Lucky git!
