Saw this earlier and my heart sank a little. I think Sam and Paul either need to make a concerted effort to do completely separate/different content, or just sod it and join forces for Seen Through Supercars of London and just do all their videos together.

(And yes, I'm fully aware that it wouldn't work as they wouldn't get double the views etc etc, I'm just waxing lyrical)

SoL's 'would I swap my BMW M3 for an M2' video is a classic case of this being a self-made problem. 38k views against 625k c. subs.

Audiences have got wise to this sort of ad-milking fkwittery non-content and before you even open it you know its just a 15 minute padding exercise and a complete waste of time because 9/10 'should I buys-' are little more than content for the sake of it. They have to milk these events like goodwood because apart from buying new cars they don't seem to be able to produce interesting content when they actually own them. I'm sure he is a lovely chap but outside of his interest in cars he doesn't seem to have anything in his life worth vLogging about or even talking about so his entire content seems to revolve around walking around car dealerships taking about buying things. Audiences are going to get bored because they are all doing the same thing, ironically for channels showcasing the 'supercar lifestyle' the make owning a supercar seem boring as fk. And herein lies the problem for them and their audience who fantasise about getting a lambo - by themselves supercars are just not that interesting. The exciting lives of supercar owners comes from their wealth, travel social scene and other toys, a supercar is merely an accessory as part of that. Watching a bunch of blokes milling about a forecourt is not exactly conpelling content, and endless 'should I buy's' start to grate the way that bloke in the office/pub who drones on about buying xyz or doing xyz then doesn't do anything.

They're kind of a victim of their own success because they've been handed a huge audience but lack the creative chops that the teams behind trad shows like TG have to know how to create entertainment. The point they're at thry need to be sitting down and planning their content much better rather than rinse & repeating the sane worn out filler which the above figures show the audience has now figured out is not worth their eyeball time.

Not true, sometimes he goes to McDonalds and plays McDonalds 'roulette' which is asking for the same order as the person before you. Absolutely hilarious. Not!

It might be interesting if you´re 12. I am way past that age, and can´t stand most of SOL´s videos. He has the means to afford a huracan and an m3 but can´t afford a gimbal.

Compare with the Primitive Technology guy. 4m subs and regularly gets 10m views. Over 20m in some cases. He doesn't even talk.

The difference (aside from being a different niche altogether)? One video a month of interesting content which appeals well beyond the 'bushcraft' niche it purports to be in. No waffle, no filler, no 'lifestyle' nonsense. I'd love to see a comparison of the revenues.

Paul said at the start of the year he wanted to daily vlog to show everyone what his life was like day to day bla bla. As you say it's clearly just not that interesting.

Working together might make better financial sense.

I imagine they made a pretty penny working together for their Michelin-sponsored content. That's where the cash will be. Building up their Instagram, FB and Twitter numbers and then making sure their posts have the relevant hashtag or @ sign.

Yes, it reminds me of a comedy mag i did in my early 20's. Everyone loved it and then in then ext issue I realised I had no new content.

Car videos are essentially 'This is the new xxxxx and this is what its like' and that's about it. Plus, the media and vloggers etc are all clamouring to be the first to review something and after that you get a ton of reviews of the same car within days of each other.

This is where vloggers can benefit because I've had videos leap to the top of the "search table" so to speak even though established names and magazines reviewed the car's years ago!

That's why I tend to stick to Schmee's videos or someone like Harry's Garage.

I really think Schmee needs to forget about all the European jaunts and do a big road trip in America. 3 weeks from Chicago to LA in a classic America muscle cars, the more times you break down, the more views you'll get wink.

he´s just stealing other people´s content and makes some stupid comments about it. i had a look at some of the videos he featured in his compilations and a lot of them had less than a thousand views, so he´s clearly taken advantage of them.
i guess the only reason why he´s popular is his consistency... and that his stupid comments are great if you´re a kid.

It can work pretty well if the content is newer, fresher and has better engagement and watch time as we discussed a few pages back.

The best example I can give on this is my 7 Series video; I drove it a long time after the BMW press launch but it has 5.2 million views now.

The vloggers have all seemed to struggle for their usual views over Goodwood weekend, with the Michelin stuff from Sam and Paul seeing seriously low on views.
For what it's worth, just looked at my running tally from the 5 Goodwood videos I've posted so far and it's at 800,000 views with obviously more to come. I consider this on the very strong end to have these numbers so quickly - don't forget they have a very long tail too so those 5 will easily total well over a million in time.

I think it would be harsh to call these guys lazy, as it will take a while to steal all the clips and come up with new list ideas... scratchchin

Another one is VisioRacer, but I quite like his videos, even though the facts are not always correct.

These guys will be making decent pocket money from Google Adsense with their 'top 10'-esque videos, but they do litter my recommended videos...

I did indeed do a live interview on Radio Le Mans during the Porsche Cup on Saturday morning. It's not my first Le Mans though but my third. The first one with Corvette I was around the pits at the finish line and that was incredible, last year with Ford was in their hospitality trackside but the atmosphere was more subdued as if it was an expected victory I guess. This year was in Porsche hospitality in the paddock but the LMP1 race was done and dusted so all attention was on the Aston vs Corvette action as it unfolded.

I like a mix of both personally. The majority in the quick'n'dirty vlog style but then nicely edited ones when it's a special video. Like a certain new Mac collection!!

I don't know about anyone else, but I find Shmee pretty irritating. His vlogs are like watching CeeBeebies for motorists.
I agree and full naming every fecking car with the model numbers the works..................

I genuinely think Tim would be a nice bloke in person but videos not for me. I don’t watch any of the SOL or anything similar as I just find them sh*t and its like "look at me".

I prefer some of the more "raw" / natural level folk like Dannydc2, 6two1, mischa (apex at the nurburgring) etc. I am still part way through the thread but Corozins comment made me howl laughing.

Is posting 4K content beneficial from YT position point of view, are these videos pushed higher than 1080p ones?

I did some research into 40k / 60fps. There were a few theories that it helped, but most people were saying no.

Even if it doesn't help now, it might in the future so if you can shoot in 4k/60 then go for it.

Dat edit though wobble
