Sorry mate but you just come across as a completely bitter bell-end.

You yourself just took out an 8k loan to buy a 'new' car...if you have to sell it because you're struggling to make the repayments, make sure to come back here and let us know so we can all have a good laugh along with you.

Defo not bitter. Just don't like some of these YouTube s.

Nor are we all powerfully built PAYE types. But yeah, you keep those NHS execs in their money with their BTL portfolios, supercars etc. I'm amazed you attack the likes of Shmee who cost you nowt, yet you say nothing about the public sector fat cats you prop up via PAYE??? "Truly amazing" and I suspect Gorbachev would say the same thing too. Let me guess, you pay your Telly tax too? You prop up the likes of communist Gary Linekar too eh?

But they don't drive around London. They go to events, road trips across the continent. Something most 'normal' guys don't get to do.

Like it or not these are realistic channels. People like real life content, these 'vloggers' or whatever term you wish to use provide this content. They do it pretty well and clearly work hard. May not be to everyone's liking, but clearly there is a huge following for this and that doesn't just relate to the auto sector.

And furthermore your prediction for Shmee is funny. Even if he stops his own Youtube, I suspect it will be because of far bigger opportunities. In fact I will go as far as predicting one or more of these guys will one day be on mainstream TV in some capacity.
Unlike and watch a lot of youtubers, but dislike some of them... Shmee and SOL are utter garbage.

As for road trips and all that, good luck to them.

I've just expressed my opinion (albeit in a bad way), that the YouTube car scene is flooded, running out of ideas, and have predicted it will all be over in 2 years, especially for the likes of smhee.

You said they could barely afford to make their payments. Which YouTubers were you referring to?

Don't feed the troll/child. Just ignore and he'll go away.

He's derailing a (fairly) sensible thread, so let's not indulge him.

You're right. It's quite a good thread in-fact. Back on topic, I quite liked my STG podcast / chat on his car selling. The Jag SVR would be great. I am fortunate to work near a Jag dealer - might see if I can get a shot of one.

I was just listening to it though whilst doing other things. Tony, I am sure is aware, has a face for podcasts...

Anyone who really thinks Shmee, JWW, TGE, STG cant afford their cars are living in la-la land. They don't sit up at night worrying about finance payments.

Yes I am sure at some point youtube will die off and they will all go and do something else, or not... they don't really have that worry or they would not have left their jobs to "do youtube" as a "business". (no disrespect to anyone).

Yikes, this got unpleasant.

And in response to earlier jibes, maybe I'm never 100% about my job title & happily throw people off the scent because it's really of no relevance to anyone. I have a full time job, in the city, in London.
If I was a trader would I be wise to admit it in an enormous public online capacity? As it is I get 92830823408234 DM's a day asking me how 'to trade' - fuelled no doubt by the Instagram trading/scamming craze we seem to be seeing.

Anyway, who liked my last video? Prob the best production I've done but the views tanked, perhaps not many wanted to watch a 5th video on the 570s Spider. LOL

Love the content, Tom, a happy watcher from Aus.

As you say though, the whole launch was saturated and even Shmee's video is struggling to get past 50k views.

Nonetheless, a quality video!

Wrong about STG. He definitely does have to worry about finance payments as his last video shows. The rest are minted and I agree finance payments are not a problem.

Thanks mate! Mine's struggling to nudge 20k which is unusual even for my small channel.
Didn't help that I got the video out at 4pm, hours after 5/6 other bigger channels had put theirs out.
Ho hum.

Great video, entertaining and with a high production quality - it does come across very similar to MrJWW's video, with the same quirky music and sports exhaust soundtrack.

I think it's saturation, as soon as embargo lifts, all of you (Tim/Paul/Seb/James) are fighting for the same viewers. The side panel on youtube is just full of the same thing.

Well done though, loved the vid.

(edit: props to you for using an iphone!!)

I still think there's huge room to manoeuvre on youtube without having to resort to re-wrapping a car to drive viewing numbers....but it won't happen for a while yet..
That audience, who appreciate such things, the goldfish/Instagram crowd might be the larger audience and therefore worth chasing....
But there are HUGE peripheral subjects.
Racing, art, history, manufacture, technology, driving hints/tips/styles, education, road trip routes...more meaningful mods/tuning
So 'reviews and road trips' predominantly so far.... I guess for the time being the short of attention will drive the content, but alllll these viewers you'd hope will mature over time, so the 'better' stuff should grow too.

I include myself in both camps currently btw wink
watching anything from Seb watching someone else pic up a car, through JWW reviewing something unobtainable to some knowledgeable chap in the states slowly and skilfully changing his S2000 into a track car....
As has been said, if at any point I become bored....I find something else...

I guess that there in lies the problem. Historically, in the non-digital age, you would have a choice to read the review of a new car in two weekly mags and three-to-four monthly mags. Autocar, Auto Express, Car, Evo, Top Gear plus a another.

With the 570S Spider review embargoed for yesterday, there was content going live at the same time for: Autocar, Auto Express, Evo, Top Gear, Pistonheads, Motoring Research, Motor 1, Carfection, plus other UK online/print publications, plus the foreign offerings which can now be viewed online, and now the vloggers as well.

So much content available. This is good for the manufacturers and their PR/marketing teams as they are going to get a shedload of exposure. There is loads for the consumer to read, but it's possibly not great for the content creator because there are so many of them fighting over a diminishing amount of advertising revenue. Video teams will spend ages editing a video only to get a small number of views compared to an exclusive they might have had.

Q: how many reviews / pieces on the 570S has the average PHer read since the embargo was lifted yesterday?

Good production, you've definitely upped, but I feel like everyones edit styles are merging into one. It could have been a video by James or Sam.

Yours is also the longest, and includes a Q&A. I presume this was done to differentiate your video from others, but I feel the length might have put people off.

Was Sam on the launch? He's not published yet. I also wonder if on these types of launch were you know you're going to get 20 videos uploaded the second the embargo lifts by your peers, why not hold onto it for a week or two. Youtube also rates freshness.

I just wish my full time job, in the city, in London allowed me to work the hours you do wink

In all seriousness, does your public profile affect your day job in terms of colleagues/management commenting on your social media profile/ other commitments?

Good Question. I watched the Alex Goy one on the Motor1 channel as I saw it linked from his Twitter account (wasn't subscribed to their channel at the time). I didn't bother watching any of the other ones in my YouTube feed, but will endeavour to watch the Carfection one now that I have learned (from this thread) that it has been done by H. Catchpole (I like him, I think he's good).

However, on the subject of McLaren videos posted in the last couple of days, I did watch the lengthy '720S vs 675LT' video done by Misha/Boris. Mostly Just him and his bossman stood in the 'ring carpark chatting about the 2 cars, and then plenty of footage from the track and autobahn. Much better use of 45mins of my time than watching 3 or 4 somewhat identical 570S pieces.
