Anyone watch Sideways Sid’s Video’s ? He can pedal a car for sure but I’am genuinely surprised if he’s not had a visit from the police yet!

They all wanted interviews, phone calls, everything. I just wasn't interested in any of it and didn't do a single one.
I got my best mate on board who was happy to do all the public stuff.
Amen to that.

I suspect we have pretty similar tastes.

I notice that STG and 'Jamie FYD' are at the launch of the Jeep Compass.

One has to wonder how dull a car has to be for a vlogger not to attend a manufacture event - "Hello one and all, today we are driving the Kia Picanto"?

I watched STGs finance video, I notice the dude from the finance company let slip he (Sam) is running it as a business. Not that is unexpected if anything it should be but I think he has not mentioned that before - in fact I don't think any of the Vloggers have gone into detail about that.

Part of me thinks its none of my business but on the other hand when they are trying to explain their finances to us chumps it really does make a difference that they are commercial entities and their operating costs are deducted from their taxable profits which does not really translate to joe blogs on the street buying on finance, IYSWIM.

doesn't take much wondering...
The car might be dull but the event might not be
Who in their right mind would turn down such free stuff?
One man's dull is another man's exciting....
It's just a free 15 minute advert on the whole... if it ain't your bag, click the thumb down button and move on.
I mean personally regardless of car, I find watching a youtuber wrap a car again or go weak at the knees at a computer generated fart from the exhaust dull.... so I try to not watch videos focused on that....

Especially as he appears on a CBBC show about cars (along with the fragrant Rebecca Jackson). A prime candidate for some faux tabloid newspaper outrage.

Heard about this, haven't seen any episodes (have they even been aired yet?) - But that Rebecca Jackson is a bit of a ting

I'm fairly sure they'll be getting a fee to attend. I know vloggers of that level have been invited to tyre events in the past, which are incredible event from content and driving opportunities, and their agencies have demanded a fee.

Some (all?) episodes are on the iPlayer. Worth watching a couple of them if you have an hour to waste, but that's it.

I have no idea if this is a complement? (I also get confused when young people refer to things as being 'sick')

Money for Jam! Is this something that has always happened (ie. freelancers paid to attend)?

Most press trips are fully paid for (other than airport parking, but literally everything after that is paid for) but no, it's not often people are paid to attend. Even the likes of EVO couldn't demand a fee, BUT you need to remember if Michelin invited EVO out on a press trip, EVO would certainly take into account the fact Michelins spend tens of thousands a year on advertising in the magazine.

Freelancers go for free then sell the write ups to the magazines, who get paid advertising money from the manufacturers.

If they're being paid to attend an event they really need to be making it clear on their videos and social media posts.

By law you have to, but many seem to think it's ok not to. I am sure it's a ticking clock until the ASA do a full check into where money is handed over.

Is there a loophole in this, if there is no money handed over, they don't need to mention it? Like if a company just pays for everything - the flights, hotel, food, drink, petrol, etc, without actually paying the content creator for their services? And the creator is happy to do it, for 'free' because they know they will make money off the videos they produce from those opportunities? Everybody wins, right?

I'm not sure anybody is hiding that you attend as a guest of the organiser of the event? That's the same in magazines, newspapers and online content; whether it's cars, technology or anything else.

In what way is it different from a Pistonheads writer going on a launch to write content on a website that has advertising?

You do not have to declare anything if you're attending an event for free.

I'm positive people are being paid to attend certain events and not declaring it on youtube, but because they're not specifically promoting a product, more making a video of an experience, they're falling into a grey area.

James clearly marked the virtual garage video and got a huge backlash from it, you can see why they're all warey of doing it. For some reason the youtube audience doesn't like their favourite content creators earning money.

For sure, I know of some very specific examples where money changed hands but it was not declared.

As you say, the audience is developing and will now backlash just because they see the words "Paid promotion" even if the content is excellent.

Anyway, I see Seb has got a new long term test car - a Kia Stinger GT-S.
It seems his lotus is still for sale 3 months on, he needs something to drive back and fourth between his parents house and his parents other house, he needs a lesson in selling cars from TGE.
I watched this last w/end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIdug5IkkaQ TGE ‘really really struggled to sell’ the 720S, then sells it to a private guy who then makes a very quick profit selling it to a dealer? How does that happen? TGE is no Terry Tibbs.
Ermm, was it not on sale or return at the dealer? i.e. the guy he sold it to didn't make a quick profit, he put it up for sale at a price which would, if it had sold, made him a big profit.
That’s the upshot, but not definite, hence the question marks: https://youtu.be/uIdug5IkkaQ?t=385 What to believe? He also said he had the car for 8 weeks, when simple maths makes it 5-6 weeks.
