The absolute obsession with the perceived economy of diesel engines.

I drive a diesel, however, it's not all that economical or fast and I bought it knowing that. People seem genuinely disgusted when I tell them I average 36mpg.

I'm perfectly happy with that return from a medium sized saloon car with an auto gearbox, but so many people suck air through their teeth when they find out my MPG, which is inevitably the first question people ask.

I drove a Saab until a couple of years ago and I used to grin when telling people it did 22mpg.
People believe the hype of the quoted figures when they buy a car. Then they believe the mpg meter on the dash - that is average you morons. I reckon a full tank to full tank would scare the bejaysus out of them......

The last car that I bothered to check was only out by 2mpg

For me , it HAS to be flat bottomed steering wheels in ordinary cars.

Saw one in a CT200h.
It has 99 horsepower and the speed of an arthritic sloth!

Name yours.
Flat bottomed steering wheels are usually stupid. Very few cars have a rack short enough to go lock to lock without passing the bottom of the wheel, and the flat bottom just spoils the rotation. The CT200h is a very good car though.

I'd love to see an end to the SUV craze. They are so unsightly.
I had a quick drive in an Audi A7 recently which had a flat bottomed steering wheel. I said I wasn't a fan, the best the salesman came up with was that it made getting in and out easier. I replied that my car has an electric steering column that lowers when the ignition is switched on and raises when turned off to make getting in and out easier, and that I was surprised that a £60k car doesn't have one... he went quiet then.

My London daily is a Fiat 500 Twin Air. 800cc of turbo menace, with a flat bottomed steering wheel!

Cheap cars.
Nothing should cost less than £100,000 with the same charged for road tax & insurance thus leaving the roads clear of the riff-raff who will have to go by bus or stay at home.

I have one of those ( the car) and I’m a fan of the aesthetics (non biased, I bought it because I was a fan)

People always seem to forget that that grill gets split up by a license plate.
I think it looks great as far as modern faces go.

Lol
So ...... full tank to full tank measurement ISN'T an average?
Please tell us how you measure mpg without calculating an average?
This subject has been done to fking death. Some people get advertised figres, some don't. Maybe those that don't shouldn't have a diesel in the first place? That is all there is to it.

Tbh I have both a diesel and a petrol car.
The diesel is a big heavy XF, the petrol is a much lighter Giulietta QV. Power wise they are quite similar.

I can achieve economy numbers with the big Jag that I'm not able to touch with the Alfa.

On top of that, over here, diesel is actually cheaper than petrol.

So the long mile savings are quite substantial.

Would I prefer an XFR?
Of course, no doubt about it.
But it would be wasted on me, sitting in traffic costing me loads of money in taxes, fuel and insurance.

I beat the average mpg quoted for a FFRR over 20k miles in mine, then sold it to my mum and she has beat it too. Has been averaging just shy of 30mpg over 30/35k miles now. Helps that it never really has to deal with stop start busy city traffic.

All depends on your driving if you can match/beat the mpg.

Why is this feature even required?? Outside of a dedicated sports car I've never struggled or even come close to struggling and thought 'if only it had...'

Maybe something to do with being 'powerfully built'? Or maybe just portly and seat too far forward?

A genuine comment- picking my 7yr old from school (talks about cars all the way to and from school daily) asked me why people buy big 4x4's and asked 'are they scared they'll get hurt in a Normal car'? I was Abit naughty I admit and added....Yes and they tend to be small out of shape people..

So that ties in biggrin

That just looks like it's sulking, dragging it's lower lip along the ground!
