RE: Audi RS2: PH Heroes
Discussion
Wonderful car. I had one for a couple of years, Ragussa green, black alcantara.....it had huge lag, but was somehow better for it. Its big problem was the size of the flywheel, it was unusually large to help balance the 5 pot, this make heel & toeing very difficult blunting the driver experience ( but not as horrendous as the BMW Z M 4 who's brake and throttle pedel are so far apart that not even my size 12's could reach !......the ultimate driving machine....what a joke ! )
I thought about buying an RS2 last year, but instead went for a B5 RS4. Love the car, and while these older Audis aren't the last word in driving dynamics, they make up for it with character in spades IMO. I also believe they made the best looking estate cars back then
One thing that does grate though is how poor Audi are re spare parts availability once cars have become older than 10 years. BMW are far better in such respects

Depends what you like driving.
I'd like to drive the B7 and have £10k in the bank, how about you ?Edited by Lowtimer on Tuesday 31st May 11:27
Saw one at Easter in Fort William. It was part of a run up north made up of a few S2s, the RS2 and the odd S3 and S4. Spoke to one of the owners who said it was tuned to over 700BHP.
Never had an RS2 myself but my S2 was quick enough with 300BHP. And lag was not an issue. Just change down a gear. Get the revs over 3000 and floor it!
By the way, the only way to hit 1.5 secs to 30 was not to use the clutch. Crunch!

Love these, back years ago when working in a petrol station saw one with "THE WHO" as the number plate and i have always wondered who the owner was as i never saw him just saw him driving away as i was busy off the till and someone else served him and considering the cost of the car and the plate did make me wonder if it was a member of the band .
Roger Daltrey used to have an Audi 90 quattro 20v model some years back ( a friend nearly bought it ) so maybe he's an Audi fan and moved onto one?Lowtimer said:

For anyone seriously after one, I've put my blue RS2 on the market in the last week. It's the one featured here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=121...
I can vouch that this is a lovely car, probably one of the best in the country Andy20vt said:

An RS4 isn't special ? And get you not being interested in having another £10k in the bank
The B7 RS4 is special, a great car however it will never be as rare or iconic as the B5 RS4 or RS2. The B7 was a pure Audi project whereas the B5 was Audi/Cosworth and the RS2 Audi/Porche. Think there were around 3,500 B7's in the UK so fairly common sight on UK roads. When you compare that to just 500 x B5 RS4's and a mere 180 RS2's then both earlier models are cars that you'll hardly ever see. Rare as hens teeth. The B7 RS4 is a great car sure, but there's been quite a few people over on the RS forum who've moved from the B5 to the B7 and then shortly afterwards sold the B7 and moved back to the B5 again. Take that as you will.
As for having £10K in the bank, I've just checked the bank website and it would bring me mighty, throbbing £129 a year in interest. So no, that prospect is not blowing my skirt up.

I've considered owning all 3 in the past so I understand the merits and shortcomings of them all. As for how many I'll see on the road, and how much it's gone up in value since yesterday I really couldn't give a toss. I'm much more interested in the driving than the speculating.Andy20vt said:
For an outlay of a mere £600 you can get an uprated rear ARB plus a Stage 1 Map for the B5 and you'll have a car with approx 430bhp and with lovely neutral handling (no more understeer). Perfect
Indeed, but I'd be costing up new exhaust cams, and wondering how long it would be until I had to pull the engine out to change the turbos .I bought an RS2 in January, loved it so much that i went out and bought another one, both Ragussa green, one was in very good condition, the other one needed work and I reckon after spending around £4k on it its value has increased by £8k-£10k. They are appreciating very fast now as theyre are so few about, brilliant to drive and loads of power. The mention of lag is true however if you enjoy driving the car in the spirit that its supposed to be driven then you will never feel much lag, its only lazy drivers and those who dont understand the charactersitics of the engine that complain when they try to floor the throttle off boost, you`ll find this in any turbo car. I have just driven 2000 miles last week to Monaco and back and it didnt miss a beat and stood up to all the rubbish weather i waded through on my trip down there and back, its a keeper for me.

Dynamically the most disappointing car I ever owned - and I bought one having loved the necksnapping RS2. Truly a badly handling car albeit with a sublime supercar engine. The only car I have owned less than a year. Sorry guys - it and Welsh B roads did not get on at all.jshell said:
Years ago my dad and I took a pearlescent white RS2 for a test drive up in Inverness. Was so very, very close to trading in my Ur 20v quattro for it, but decided to 'stick'. It was bloody quick though!
I remember seeing it in Highalnd Audi (or Hawco as it was) when I had my S2 Avant. Drooled all over it as I had/have a pearl urq also. That was the only Pearl White RS2 in RHD. Car still about down the south of England somwhere, seen it not long ago on FB.
