So a fiesta with more power than a sierra cosworth, and slightly lighter too.. and a lot more drivable.

I bought a used Sierra RS Cosworth in 1990, My Mrs bought a brand new ST2 a year ago for around £15k. The Cossie felt quicker at the top end but I reckon that the ST would leave it behind on a twisty B road.
I think you'd be right - even the old ST was quicker - 25 to 30 years of suspension tech - same power to weight and same mechanical grip

When do/did these revisions take place on the standard car??? If I had just ordered one in the last 6 months, I'd be wanting the revised car for sure for the same money!

Was that your local dealer? I'm contemplating keeping my lease car, but at two years old and 12000 miles they asked£13.5K. Might as well buy a new one if I fancy sticking with it.
Chippenham Motor Company, not our nearest but not too far away, but a member on here working there contacted me when I was looking for info on the Zetec-S/ST Line and after having a chat with them beat the local dealers and CarWows quotes.

Then we went with the ST-3 instead. smile

I'd guess from the text it would be something like the MY16 revision. Our car was already built when we ordered it 3 weeks ago and is a MY16.5 car.

Asking a silly question but if it's virtually the same money as a new Focus ST, does it offer a decent alternative to its big brother?

Comparing a top spec Fiesta with an entry Focus.

Mind you a Mountune chip running 18psi, uprated wastegate actuator and tweaked fuel pressure on the Cossie and the ST200 would probably wonder where it went, in a straight line.

I think an interesting test would be the Mk1 Focus RS vs this Fiesta ST200 - similar power and weight

Maybe one of the Ford mags will do it

No I'm not. It's a Focus ST. Not a Focus 1.0 ecoboost..

That makes sense really, fiesta has more power/weight but likely poorer aero

ST-1

Add on a couple grand for an ST-2, but more for an ST-3.

I'm not sure, my 87 Cosworth felt very planted at high speed and that rear spoiler must have created some drag.

Yeah, the ST will have a better Cd than the 3-door Sierra with the wing on. Not sure if the Cda is better too

I've seen a picture of a standard 3dr Cosworth at high speed and the big gap between the rear wheel and arch looked a lot less than at standstill. I'd guess Ford knew they would have enough power when racing, so went big on downforce when they designed the front airdam and rear spoiler.

Even more so on the RS500 with the extra lip on the wing and the spoiler on the tailgate. Supposed to add up to another 100kg of downforce at very high speed.
Also took the Cd from 0.345 to around 0.36.
I'd imagine the Fiesta ST is somewhat slippier

The 500 had a different 2 piece front splitter too. I had my 87 Cosworth pedal to the metal in 5th many times and it always felt very stable.

Thanks. That was nice of them. The ST-3 is worth it over the ST-2 imo. smile

They'll likely want the same in feb when mine goes back I'd imagine! I'l definitely go for a new one if I was going for the same car again
I hadn't intended to purchase. I wanted to lease to prevent me sticking with the same car for too long, but for the money I can't think of anything else that is as fun that I can 'use' without getting into trouble.

I've a MK1 MX5 as well, so they compliment each other well.

I can see the ST200 selling in small numbers, but nothing major.
