Number plates worth more than cars?!
Discussion
Hi folks, this is my first contribution to the forum and obviously i want to go straight for a TOTD!! I have been thinking about this one for a while. I have been travelling a lot more with work recently and have started to notice a lot more personalised registration plates out there. My latest observation being that surely now there are plates out there worth more than the vehicles that they are displayed on, especially the date-less plates!! Unfortunately i haven't been able to get a stationary photo yet but have the perfect photo to get next time i visit Wales (secret spot!). Anyway, comments and photos are welcome...is it just me that thinks this or do you have any sheds sporting a £3k plate? Thanks. Alastair

TOTD?Tits Of The Day?
I regularly see an elderly farmer ( I presume) driving the most broken looking Daihatsu 4x4 in my village.
his reg no is 70 RD which to me, looks like LORD. obviously he's not a moron so its spaced properly. Bu to my PH eye, it says LORD !
I wouldn't mind betting that plate is worth serious money. Equally, as is the way with country types, so could he be too.
I also used to walk past a landrover with the plate AK 1 on my way to school, some 30 odd years ago. Ironically my exact initials. To be fair it was brand new and the chap renewed it with a new one every year or so. Again, it'll be worth mega money, but of course in fairness it was always on a new car, which isn't the point of this thread !

Some scary plate values out there...especially as the insurance companies aren't quick to return them if the vehicle is stolen! My friends dad has about 6 plates and his most valuable took him nearly 1 year to reclaim after the car got stolen...bit of a worry when you have a 10k plate!
I can understand it on a car that was perhaps bought new and for a hefty price, a late 90s Merc or something similar. Then you'd expect the plate to have gone on then and been left there.
Other cars I don't quite get like you're average hatch back worth a grand with a plate worth double but then there's a story behind many of them I'm sure. May be that the plate was inherited or gifted.
A family friend drives an E46 BMW convertible which wouldn't be worth an awful lot. But has a plate with something like 13 U on it. This was her late husband's plate and he had it in the 80s on a 911. Passed away and she's had it on her cars ever since. Can see why she wouldn't sell it and put it on whatever car she had.
