Our friends live quite near to a large hospital. They have a big (5 cars??) paved parking area at the front of their house.

One day they had a knock on the door and there was a random lady asking if it would be OK to park on their drive as it would cost her £7.00 to park on the hospital car park.
Sound like prime candidates for the aforementioned rent-your-drive scheme.

As someone who has in the last two years had a full days chemo nearly every two weeks, and a stint of 25 days radiotherapy I can tell you parking charges can mount up for regular attendees at hospital. A two hour trip by public transport where you can catch infections at your most vulnerable, and a return journey when you feel like pumping isn't really an option.

As a cancer patient I did get £1 tokens to pay for each day ticket, which was nice, but that's a bonus only for cancer patients. I also got ticketed at 9am having been kept in overnight when I was very ill from chemo. I pealed and it was accepted, but still a worry.

I often joke that one of the worst things about Cancer treatment was the parking...but also that one of the BEST things about the NHS was that was my only real hit to my wallet.

If the car park is full you get the stress about being late for appointments, sometimes the wait for space was 1/2 hour. I'd make sure I arrived with plenty of time, but if an appointment was for 11am I knew spaces would disappear and the almighty fight for them would begin...not what you need.

If I lived near a hospital and if I had a space available I'd give it to a nurse. If someone asked to use the space I'd probably say yes. And I speak as someone who had a 'random' knock and ask if they could park on my drive when the snow came down and it was unsafe for her to continue. They came back next day with a bottle of wine.
My wife had breast cancer and through a dosage issue nearly died after her 3rd chemo session. Through her treatment she could hardly breathe sometimes and walking was a major issue, i asked whoever it was for a blue badge so parking would be easier and safer for her but was turned down, not for a month six months or a year apparently she didnt meet the criteria, wft.. When im in charge as soon as you have an illness like that its an automatic given that you will be issued a disability badge.
I feel your pain about waiting for parking, we where lucky that she was private but the hospital was small so still had parking issues .

Should have said she could if she paid them £6.50

When it's stage 4 (i.e terminal) then you get automatic full mobility, and a blue badge. Sadly Westminster put all the disabled bays miles away from the London Oncology Centre (and don't do the blue badge exemptions) so I used to have to take my wife there and drop her off before driving off to find a parking space.

I'd definitely say yes to someone who rocked up and asked that favour for the day.

Who wouldn't?

We had to dump the wife's SLK in the snow earlier in the year outside some-ones house. I knocked on their door and apologised in advance for the inconvenience, and the homeowner(s) thanked me for my consideration.

As the saying goes, asking for permission in advance is soo much easier

Depends on the car, if it were a shed then I'd feel some compassion and let them whereas if it was something flash I'd tell them to jog on and pay the £7.

The guy vandalised the car because it was an inconvenience to him personally, not for the greater good of the community. He could turn his rage on someone else who inconveniences him and to enforce a rule that is made up in his own head rather than set by the people managing your property.
Conceivably he could. But he could also rock up wearing a frigging Tu-Tu and claiming to be a princess.

Or, the single example of behaviour was a one-off exercise in futility and as pointed out by another user, you obviously have a really vivid imagination, prone to supposition (What if..).

Blakewater said:
What would happen if he got another car and decided your space was a good place to leave it everyday?
Why, would he do that outside of your imagination then?
Do you know him. If so perhaps you can tell us his name and fully disclose the details of his criminal record, so we have some true facts.

Blakewater said:
Would you challenge him about that or park your car in your space and risk him vandalising it because he's made it his space?
Id likely do nothing of the sort. Because outside of your vivid imagination he wouldn't park on my drive and I wouldn't park on his and then repeatedly annoy him, just to provoke him to attack me.

Bloke I work with rents out his extra inner London car parking spot through some website, quite lucrative, mind you he is as tight as a ducks backside. He has no interest in cars but made me laugh the other day as he came in all angry saying that people kept knocking on his door asking him if he wanted to sell the car out front. He didn't have a clue what it was but it turns out it's an early Nissan Skyline and has been left there while someone goes on holiday. Think he's well fed up with it already.

Someone parked on our drive the other week so I went out and asked if I could help them. They were loading something into their car and cheerfully said "No, don't worry, we are just borrowing your drive to load this in". I think they had bought some small items of furniture from a neighbour.

I said they could have asked and they just replied that they would only be a few minutes.

I didn't know what to do really so just went back inside and my OH was laughing at me as I didn't actually achieve anything other than annoying myself.

They don't appear to be struggling for space. Their biggest issue here was contacting police and media. If they had just towed it onto the street and claimed ignorance then it would have been moved away by council.

It is customary, so I have read, that a crime free corpse is chosen that resembles the man' lady or "Qīzi" and dressed up in the attire of the year that they first met, as a reminder of their fledgling love. Expressions are guessed and glass eyes used.

Perhaps that is on the cards for the 15th?

If you are stage 4, why would you be concerned about parking fines? I think I'd be running up as much debt as I could to the benefit of my loved ones.

Not really, you're just giving them something else to worry about.
