To be fair to them, according to the article it suggests that was the solicitors advice, they are only young. The law can seem pretty intimidating if you haven't had dealing with it before. But agreed, seems a strange decision to sign over ownership, I assume there wasn't a dispute over ownership before the trees were felled.
