In volume 37 of the thread we’ll be commenting on it’s neat proportions and how well it’s aged, lusting over the huge engine/battery versions at £8k in the classifieds, and whinging how gauche the latest water powered offering looks on its 32” rims.

To be fair, it doesn't look dissimilar to an XC90. Other than the truly hideous oversized grille.

I recall the 850CSi being spanish only, just wasn't sure that each B12 was originally a CSI. Epic bearding on the manual with 12. I'd love a Spanish box in a V12 coupe / sedan.
Only the 5.7 B12s were CSi based IIRC, the 5.0 B12s were from the 850i. Not sure what happened when the 5.4 850Ci appeared though, E24Man might know
The UK never got the 850Ci with the M73 engine, we only got the M70 5.0. At the stage the rest of world got the updated V12 from E38, the UK lost the standard V12 and just had 840Ci or 850CSi options.

Yes all CSis were manual and only the B12 5.7s were CSi based as described above.

Didn't know that re the Ci, always thought UK ones were a 5.4L too

I see there's a RHD Ci for sale at the moment (ex-Sultan of Brunei), and it is indeed a 5L: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Not true. I explained why a few pages ago.

IMO an E90 is a significant step forward vs E46.

As discussed numerous times, manual E91 330is are not common. Decent E90s are also becoming scarcer.

Limited experience of E60s but I'd question whether I needed the bigger, heavier car.
Thanks for your opinions. I have done some more reading and looked at a lot of adverts, and I think a 330i m-sport E9X is what i'm after. They are really doing it for me at the moment!

Is SMG still a minefield with the E9X, like some suggest it was with E46s? Perhaps the SMG would be a good middle ground if I could find one... or maybe at a push the auto with steering wheel paddles.

Don't think you get SMG in the E9X, just the sport auto or the M3 had the option of DCT.

Don't discount the 125i Coupe when looking at these. Similar size to the E46 Coupé, much easier to find a manual, and were made until 2013 so finding a low mileage one shouldn't be too challenging. I've had one for 3.5 years now and done around 60k in it. Much prefer it to the E46 I had before (albeit that was a 330d Saloon), only reliability issue I've had was a stuck brake caliper. It also has a different exhaust to the E9x range, and sounds much fruitier. Try one in a tunnel and I suspect you will be sold smile

Swap the runflats for PS4's. take it for a £400 remap to put it up to 130i power levels, and you will have yourself a fantastic way to move around the country - pretty much a modern E30 325i. It's so good in fact, I haven't the foggiest what I'm going to replace it with.

Agreed - a 1 coop ins next on my list of BMs. Feels a lot more together than an E46 Coupe. I prefer the steering on the E46 to the 125 but would like to try a 135i coupe to see what the steering is like on that.
Probably get used to it I guess though

Been a while since I felt an 'ache' for a car but that has brought it out. Perfection.
