A Lada sporting big wheels, suspension drop and roof rack?

Pure scene-wk.
yes
Bin the roof rack, fit a two litre fiat twin cam, momo ‘wheel and a pair of recaros. And maybe raise the suspension a touch so you can drive it. Keep wheels.
If it was a Fiat, would it be more acceptable, or less? I can see how it would appeal to certain quarters as a styling exercise.
I suppose the lada version is more ‘scene’ than a 124. Top Gear did it with lotuses help, but then they went and gave it a lotus paint job. It’s all only the same as messing about with 2002s and the like, or Gordon Murray’s escort (build is on YouTube as already mentioned).
Old car, better engine, try and make it handle.
Original asthmatic commie lump weighed down with spare wheel set and a beer keg - no thanks smile

I've seen these in the flesh and they are both pretty fun cars.
I don't like or dislike them but I do appreciate them for being a bit different and almost ask the question as to why would you bother, which is quite fun to my mind. Also, the place where they reside is run by a good bunch of people, so more power to them for executing well on a brief that a customer has no doubt furnished them with. They do great work with Camper Vans too.

(No, they are not mine or anything to do with me!)

I posted a picture a few weeks ago of the Mondial going through the full cam belt replacement service...

Well the full news is in now. There were half a dozen other things that needed attention while the engine was out (water pump, coolant pipes, suspensions bits etc) and the mechanics reckoned the cambelts had been on there easily 5+ years and possibly much longer... it’s all fixed now and ready to pick up soon. Just the small matter of paying the bill now. It’s over £1k in parts alone. Ouch.

That's nothing surely for a car like that? I'm about to drop more than £1k on parts on my 928 just getting the aircon going!

True. It’s just not had any major parts. Just a long list of relatively small bits.

Of possible interest to the cayenne lovers, a friend (and pher)’s blog:

Very capable cars. He’s planning to cross Oman’s Wahiba desert in December and i will be tagging along in my v8 disco 3.
Good to see some proper use. Is his Cayenne still on the standard GTS steel springs? They're a bit lower than a standard-height car.

Ditto for SL , it's amazing how quickly a few small bits adds up though. Still may need to buy a new (2nd hand) dash cluster to cure the dashboarddisco.

I saw the original Mustang from Bullitt along with the new one at the FoS and I did like it even though some may say it's a contrived marketing etc. whatever but it's still a 6 speed manual V8 with LSD and funky wheels. That you can also have in black if you don't want to live out any fantasies.

The article on the front page was interesting but from the UK Ford website it doesn't look like it's available over here although I may be wrong and it's just a bit of friday afternooning but you can configure on the US 'site:

They've all be aesthetically fanciable since circa 2007 IMO. It's the fisher price interiors that bugger it. Some of them even drive well. The Boss 302 IIRC was meant to be tidy.

If I lived over there I'd do the Muscle Car thing. As I don't I won't....

Looked at mustangs when I was considering moving to the US a couple of years ago to join my wife (she came back on November last year, only to move to the Bahamas in June this year).

Amazing VFM out there, and I can I’ll luve with the interior for the price in USD... not so much in GBP.

luftgekult: As mentioned a few pages back by the cognoscenti has been covered by a short vid on Carfection by Henry C. Not a huge input from him as he does know when to keep schtoom but lots of lovely photography and a wee 'water-cooled' air cooled event!

Meanwhile, plans for the Mc Cerb are forming with a dual quiet* map, cam timing a la Joolz and a pair of ACT's carbon (trumpeted) airboxes for a little under bonnet ding dong are forming in the mind.

Quite agree also same for Camaros but in the same way as the 350z I was happy to overlook the craplastics because the bits you touch, wheel, seats, gearknob, were all decent finishes and it drove and sounded fab and are suitably less expensive.

But Yanks are a tricky proposition over here although with the increasing waistlines (that I may possibly have mentioned before...) they are standing out far less.

I think the number of compromises you have to make at the asking prices involved have really dented their case.

I like the idea of a modern Mustang or Camaro but as an ownership proposition I wouldn't pick on ahead of a Euro equivalent. You'd have to really want one and make it an emotional decision rather than a rational one. In the US where they cost buttons and the conditions and demands are different it's an easier sell.

Not sure how many cars I'd have to have before a Yank would get on the fleet as a toy. Quickly thinking about it, something like 7.

Some of Jay's chat is gash, as is his driving at times, but the car is epic.

Tried an MX5-RF today, slightly damp but warm conditions. Easily sideways, flat out through the gears and only doing 80mph, really miss having one and very tempted.

RF is mucho-buffetty so think it might have to be a roadster. In that funky red.
