1st lesson of BMW/M beard club, there is always someone with a bigger beard, tbf I had always assumed they were the same wheel too.

I think the E61 M5 touring will be seen as the all time great of barmy estate cars one day, RS6's never cut it in quite the same crazy way, wish I had owned one.
Stop it. This is not helping crave my urges. I do agree though that if there is a crazy engine available the wagon version has to be the most sensible choice if you want to experience the most crazyness.

Teal blue. 1275. Heritage shell back in the 90s but bodily still pretty spot on. It has a silly modern (well 1980s) stereo and immobiliser. Mechanically it seems pretty good. It's as much of a hoot to drive as I remember by 1500 being back in 1997. Brakes seem useless (which I think may be authentic!)
Teal is a great colour for these, what year is yours?
Any pics?
One of the most fun drives I have ever had (and it was only last year) was in a 1500 Rubber Bumpered Midget around Yorkshire lanes with a chum. This one had no brakes. I mean none. Pedal went to the floor after a few miles so I just learnt how to keep momentum and use the handbrake at junctions.

Very nice indeed Rejn, I really like the split bumper/square plate models.

They are an absolute hoot to drive aren't they, make some great noises and cost peanuts to run too.

Having been the custodian of an E61 M5 from 30k to 50k over 2yrs I would agree. The best/most bat st crazy estate ever made. When I went to buy it, the RS Aldi range did not even get a perfunctory look in, let alone any serious consideration. Still longing after one...

As a lover of the hated sunroof, this scene cheered me up the other day.....like stepping back to the 80s smile

There's a black one that lives around the corner from me: parked on the road, lady driver (most of the time) with a baby seat. Sensible family estate biggrin

Also, saw one of these yesterday.

Would have to say it did look very agreeable.

However, nowhere near as impossing as the coupe that looks like it's only a few steps away from being piloted directly into the sun of Kakrafoon.

I've been wondering for a while what's the cheapest way into an AMG, and now think I may have found it - well in terms of purchase anyway! Plan is to get a few bits tidied over the winter and then rock down to the likes of the LeMans Classic again next summer in it, boot full of tents and the like - assuming it makes it that far biggrin

Should be picking it up next week, so will be drinking plenty of Dr Pepper before then!

Dr. Pepper laugh I am strangely drawn to these also but as you eluded I have a feeling the entry price might be the least of your problems, but good on you!

The truly civil thread is 1-5 barge. Less beardy and, despite a propensity towards 90s Mercedes, less 'expert' and niche than this one, and all the better for it.

There's a place for both of course!

thumbup

Does it have the full length we as to sunroof? Always thought they made that big old !Benz an excellent summer bus.

I've just joined the MB club to gain access to the parts catalogue. I suspect you may benefit from the same and also discounts on parts etc.!

Good luck smile

This thread has evolved over the years with many original "members" becoming less regular, or disappearing. At times it has been/is very cliquey but it has always been diverse and entertaining. I miss some of its previous incarnations and posters to be honest.

As opposed to the 1-5 thread (which I also watch) this one has a BMW flavour. I think the occasional beardiness is engaging. It assumes a regular pattern of a number of posters adding input and then 4941/E24Man or similar popping up and squaring things up.

There's the odd spat but where it's around matters of fact that usually resolves itself. It still represents a safe zone relative to much of the rest of PH, if perhaps not the zenith of civility found in a very select few other threads.
