You almost need to be able to buy some of these examples twice over given the pension fund investment grade values - something of a replica makes sense unless your name is Bruce Wayne (or Warren / Bill / Carlos / Mark etc.)
Leave the real one in the garage and race the replica. That's how some of the race series work. Allegedly.Rocket. said:

Should reps be allowed? Do the regs say they are? If it's touted as proper period car racing then people running 2018 technology vs stuff that's four decades old feels a little off. I'm not that fussed as I just like the look and sound but let's not pretend they're something they're not.
Truth be told I don't know enough about it and I do get some of the frustration but I'd rather see a grid full of cars battling it out than handful of the 'real' old cars being gingerly driven round or demo'd. It would be nice to be able to easily identify which is which, but if I knew for example that 75 percent of the cars are reps it wouldn't detract from the racing for me personally. There's no such thing as an "original" racing car. They are rebuilt all the time, and undergo countless engine, body and even chassis replacements during their racing life.
What's to say which version of the period car should be reflected at Goodwood?
I've no problem with 'replicas' so long as they are true to the car as it would have raced at some point.

How about where two versions of the same car exist, one of which has been recently built from scratch as a facsimile (where they “share” a chassis number, and the paying public is never told of the new car’s existence)? If you’d been to the Louvre to see the Venus di Milo, would you be annoyed if you later discovered you’d been looking at a pretty accurate modern reproduction?
