5UE D on a DS3 in Spennymoor. Quite good if you’re a Sue D...or maybe if you’re a lawyer!
Not bad if you're the DVLA either, who sold it as 5 UED for £3600 + in May 1998. smile

Shame it had no front plate, just some velcro strips.

Boils my piss, especially when the Audi model actually has a space for a front number plate.

An American plate, registered in Springfield circa 1989.

I’ll try again with a few offerings (one I saw today and one I see a lot) since my first post missed the object of this thread with it’s incorrect spacing.

BO55 FAT spotted in Newcastle on a BMW - was larked up so cant confirm if the reg relates to the owner’s weight or not.

JD 79 on a massive Bentley around the South Shields area.

I’ve seen a Tesla round there too with a plate that has some sort of combination like TE57 A but I can’t remember what it actually is. Will update if I spot it again (see it fairly regularly!).

With X being an uncommon initial and the price of ‘classics’ these days, it might be closer than at first glance!

You are correct DVLA only auction un-releleased numbers and according to Noel Woodall's "Car number's" book ANN 1E was never released until 1989..

1 CUM is an original release..
Thanks Craig smile I've no idea what his old pal had then, only that he'd mentioned that plate being on the car back in the '60's confused
Craig - seeing as you are the font of number plate knowledge, do you know the backstory as to why the DVLA overlooked the issue of plates at the time? I have just bought at auction a 1983 plate that I requested be released as it had never previously been issued.

Pre Sept 2001 Numbers were all issued with letters relating the original authority countys then after that the format changed to local memory tag-year eg PR 08 XYZ = 2008 Preston the latter numbers were just in a alphabet order so many potential good numbers just never came up which is why DVLA decided to sell such numbers through the Auctions from Dec 1989 and create DVLA select etc, obviously there has always been some held back though censorship but some words now didn't have a meaning many years ago.readthumbup

At Shelsley Walsh earlier this morning. They are the official timers there. Parked next to their watch stand. (Seen in picture) quite appropriate I thought.

I was in Cheltenham last night and took a picture as I thought it should be on a Caterham. Also saw a Rolls B16TOP on the A417 dual carriageway.
