No pic sorry but 1 GUO on what looked suspiciously like an old testarossa on an open transporter just outside La Chatre in mid France. Have looked it up but can find no trace online...

WIF 1 Cork July 1961
1 IW issued by Londonderry September 1962
WIF 1 was issued in Cork in 60/61 but as we know Cork is in Ireland and as such the plate is not transferable. In addition to this that BMW is a UK registered car..... one that slipped through the net after been stuck in a brown envelope perhaps?
I sometimes see RIN 111 near me in Derbyshire. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another plate with IN in it.
VIP 1 is another which has been sold in the UK. I think it became impossible to transfer from Eire to UK after the Irish system changed in 1987.
That would answer some of the oddities on here. I previously thought it was not possible after independence in the 1920s, but as you say 'VIP' was issued by Kilkenny in 1971. RIN was issued by Kerry in 1969.

I like them! Obviously no-one throught NOB was rude when Birmingham issued it in 1953,, and the reverse issue in 164..but perhaos more surprising is that it was issued with suffixes and prefixes, as late as H### NOB in 1990!

Just saw a huge Bentley go past me. Managed to catch a glimpse of the plate: LUX 1.

Anything to do with Luxembourg?

Probably not - an original issue in normal order by Shropshire in 1955. The reverse however, 1 LUX, was a special diplomatic issue to the Luxembourg embassy in 1969.

Anyone know how you can track the historical selling prices of a particular plate?

You can only find out the price paid at DVLA auctions, not other transactions. The site here :- https://dvlaregistrations.dvla.gov.uk/search/previ... has every sale price going back to the first in the mid 90s.

The choice of what to issue and not in Birmingham was a bit random, the middle "O" leading to so many words and names being spelt. As you say, NOB was never omitted but I think POX was. NOB 1M was Birmingham's first M-suffix issue in 1973 which is a nice number, seems it is still around.

I saw either RS 9 or RS 5 on a Porsche Macan, and thinking about it, I am sure that years ago I used to see 12 NOB, which could be made more entertaining with the application of some punctuation marks, lol.
