RE: Audi RS6 Performance: Review

Am lucky enough to have an rs6 with the performance exhaust but I have two dilemmas - one is that even with the performance exhaust it still sounds tepid compared to previous c63 and rs4 - akrapovik seems the (only) way to go for nigh on £6k and 2, for £600 a certain tuner will extract another 100 Bhp over standard- so for the extra cash is it worth modding the existing car or buying the Audi Performance one?
Miltek and MTM re-map ?? Went out in a few of the previous models which they managed to squeeze around 720bhp out of. Brutal. This is my only car and i use it as intended.....for everything :-)
To the "why dont you by a 2.0 TDI and Cayman comments", well a couple of reasons. 1. These are not 100k they get discounted by 15.5%, whereas i imagine you wont get that on a TDI or especially a Cayman? 2. If i'm taking the family on a road trip, going to the golf course, picking up friends etc etc i would want to do it in an RS6 and not a TDI.
This is a lovely car (the interior details, sound, toys, exterior looks) whether travelling at wharp speeds or sat in traffic. I also think it is simply beautiful so when i park up to grab a coffee and i look back I get enjoyment.
Yes some people have these and other cars....well they are probably very wealthy why not. Similar argument to having a house in London, Cornwall and Spain...if you can why not

I had the use of one through the business I consult with and that is on a 36 mth lease at £999 PCM. £94k list.
After 36 months it will have lost 45% base price (I'll assume £80K) and ALL the options (£14k) making it worth about £44K - you've paid £36k towards the £94K 'list' - which means a shortfall of at least £14K before the leaser makes a penny...Try 18-20k down as a more likely scenario.
I have the "normal" RS6 and after 15 months and c.15k miles (it is used as the wife's DD) it still puts a smile on my face. Not as charismatic as my old v8v but devastatingly rapid and you can get the kids in the back (and the 3 year old loves it: "faster faster"). Just can't have any more kids as I don't think I could have three child seats in the back!

Your wife has very good taste. Si_man306 said:
I'm sorry, but £102k for an Audi estate car? Regardless of how fast the thing goes (and having been passenger in an RS6 recently, very fast), that's just too much and you seriously need to re-evaluate your life if that starts to make sense to you.
Used examples are £50k which given the V10 model cannot be bought for less than £25k represents a really low depreciation option Escort3500 said:

Why would anyone pay so much for such a mediocre car? £100k buys a lot more interesting, powerful metal.
Overpriced, yes. But what makes it mediocre in your view?Edited
Looking at his garage maybe this isn't in his budget or that he chooses to spend that money on other things. But his garage indicates older second hand cars which wouldn't have cost half the new cost of the RS6. I'd say that is the crux of it justifying the extra cost for diminishing returns - luckily we have people who choose differently so these will be used at some point

He means the A6 - I'm guessing he would approve of a E63S AMG Touring or if they made a F10 touring M5 anything but 4wd or it could be the weight it has

You really shouldn't judge somebody's wealth by the contents of their garage. My fleet suits my needs Edited

I simply don't see the appeal of such an expensive, dull looking car.
To add: I suspect 99% will be bought through company lease schemes so the original purchase price is largely irrelevant. Quick Google just found me a selection for £850 per month which is not expensive at all.

These things have phenomenal road presence from the front especially. There is one local to us in the test car's colour. The quickest Audi I have piloted is a B8 S4 Avant with all of 333 supercharged horsepowers so what this must be like I have no idea! I remember Harry Metcalfe saying that a lot of his supercar owning chums ran an RS6 as their daily driver. Few months ago on the Edinburgh bypass I saw an RS7 in Harris spec (flat grey with clear windows). Made me smile knowing what lay beneath! Do like that black one, it looks superb, although as someone who gets their performance hit on two wheels I find blacked out front doors terrifying as there is no way to see what the driver is up to.

Audi has certainly stolen an (extremely rapid ) march on niche market fast estates, but Volvo was the first to market such a car ... the 850 T5.
Didn't the C4-based S4 Avant pre-date the 850 T5? I think the 4.2 V8 version of it may have been available in Avant form back then tooMartyn1040 said:

Didn't the 1993 RS2 do that? Years of development with Porche I do however remember that Autocar article of the Yellow banana 850T5-R what a machine - future classic??
