I saw a project some time ago where they swapped in a new more powerful engine and gearbox, which I am sure had synchromesh. So perhaps there are still companies which offer a solution?
That was an episode of Wheeler Dealers, where the 500 broke down. Great little cars, the 500, but not one I'd like to drive that sort of distance in one on high speed roads. I'd sooner do it in a Robin reliant.

I've done three short you tube videos on my journey over from Italy. PH rules mean that unfortunately I cannot post the link to my own video but you can find it by going to my website (click on on my name and it's on my PH details).

I've also bought a 126 engine and gearbox and will be fitting it over winter.. power up from 18 to 24 hp!!
