Been seeing a building trend on PH for a while now where a thread is started, someone comes on saying they find some post offensive, a few retorts and then it all starts getting personal with direct insults and the mods close the thread down.

So why is this trend building, should people who find something offensive voice there offence or accept that it take all sorts to make this world and just let it be?

On the other side should posters no shoot from the hip and triple check every posting they are going to make in case they may cause offense.

Of course this is not just a PH phenomena but seems to be something that is building in society in general with people now able to be prosecuted for causing offense where does it end, is the western world becoming overly sensitive or are we all pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable.

For me I am one of the live and let live type of people, someone may say something that offends but just let it go, life is too short and you know what I may be wrong to feel offended.

What do other think because I find some people really hard to work out these days.

Walking on eggshells does no one any favours. Say what you mean and mean what you say because at least then the other person knows where he stands.

Am I correct in thinking you are a moderator on this site, if so do you see a growing trend?

I started this thread in NP&E as this is where I see it happening the most.

There shouldn't be a hyphen in professionally offended.

I think it's happening in both directions. People are both becoming more offensive and getting more thin skinned, especially online.

I'm not sure of the cause but I suspect it's a combination of 24hr news labouring the same story all day, 1440min internet news continually trying to find *something* to get our attention for a minute, mixed with the ease of taking an extreme position as opposed to a centrist one and the proliferation of news and social websites to cater for every confirmation bias.

The best way to fix it seems to be to disconnect from the internet and read/live more, but that seems hard enough for some and will no doubt be torturous for the younger generation.

To be frank I think Marshella is part of the problem.
He has a tendency to shut things down too easily and gives a hint of doing it when right of centre posts are flowing
Just saying how I see it

as regards the op I think the answer is yes.
I started looking at Pistonheads a few years ago on my brothers account I had an interest in and was helped a lot by people over a classic carI had bought. Classic as in classically drained the bank account but that's another story.
Around the time I started looking around and noticed the Philpot fire thread. Look it up if you will. It was brave it had a lot of people saying exactly what they thought and it was refreshing to see view honestly and openly expressed. It wasn't being done elsewhere. There were other threads where views were expressed openly and a lot of the points on both sides were expressed with some force but with politeness to others.
That's changed particularly over the last year and I assume its because the publishers are wary

I think it would be quicker if posts had a quick way of giving feedback. Currently there's a huge amount of re-quoting making threads unnecessarily long. Simple clicks for

Also tons of articles like this:

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2016/08/12/se...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-37009324

Which are basically "People on Twitter said"

You can find people on twitter saying anything, so it's easyvto get a controversial story going.

Is this really about people being offended, or just people having a different opinion? What's the point of posting anything if not to get some sort of response?

I saw a nice bumper sticker that is a response to to all of this SJW BS: "Don't spread my wealth, spread my work ethic". yes
