You have a 500k house and have to drive a Ford Ka? So you've essentially mortgaged yourself up to the eyes and now can't have the fun things in life.
I'm not sure how you know that.
So how would you interpret having a 500k house, being poor as money in the bank goes and driving a cheap slow car?

Eccentricity?

Could be, or it could be that he spends his spare cash on holidays or some other leasuire activity.

Fact is that you just don't know.

When threads start talking about sheds, land, property and general knob waving I have to ask?
I still don't see the problem to be honest, but don't intend to hold anything against you for it smile

Quick Reply. Thanks for some of the positive comments. Only comment I feel like replying to is the you own a 500k house and drive a ford ka you must be mortgaged up to the eyeballs. House is fully paid for. Have a small interest only 20k re morgage., So Now why do I drive a ford Ka and own a expensive. house It`s simple really Money is hard to come by and I don`t want to spend it on expensive cars and petrol. The reason I rarely post here Is because I spend time in south america supporting a football team I have a interest in. Regarding negative comments on this Thread keep going we all enjoy it smile

On a personal Note @speed addicted I am not rich with money in my bank. I have more than enough money to live well on I could drive a expensive car and have spare money. However I prefer to spend my money on other things that give me more pleasure than a fast car that will not get me from one place to another faster in the real world. If having a fast car gives you more enjoyment than other things in life and you do racing track days That`s great But for me I have other sporting interests that give me more pleasure. Each to there own.

I have an R50 Mini Cooper. I'm not sure if it's meant to feel this sluggish low down in the rev range (and by low down I mean <2k)... but it really is. I'm having to change down to overtake or to pick up speed far more than I did in the Twingo I had previously.

I've had an R50 Cooper and I wouldn't call it sluggish. It's a fairly typical 1.6 engine, capable of reasonable performance but will never be a ball of fire.

It's difficult to tell from your description if it's the car or your driving style at fault, however you don't go overtaking people at less than 2k revs.

Expensive house. Totally inconspicuous cars. Lots of time in South America.

Hmm...

Oh no, I wouldn't do that. It just feels very sluggish - then at 2.5k revs or so it suddenly bursts into life and I get a lump of acceleration all at once.

Indeed, hence why dyno plots often start above 2500rpm because no one drives at WOT below that point!

He's right though. It's very unresponsive 'off boost' shall we say, which is common to a lot of turbo engines of that era to be fair.

Then i'd say something sounds off. I remember I ended up changing plugs, leads and coil pack on ours as it became very hesitant at low revs. Didn't cost a great deal from ECP and sorted the problem straight away.

Which would be a great answer if the R50 had a turbo, but it doesn't.

You're on the wrong forum then. I suggest you register on a South American sporting forum.

Amusing thread.

Read the OP and wondered what the issue really was. Took from it that the OP likes to feel like he's on the edge and achieving something with his little Ka on local roads.

All I can suggest is that if there is overtaking of anything remotely more powerful than the Ka (a moderate TDi for example) then it is either through illegal speeds or dangerous driving, or the other driver doesn't fancy hospital meals and would prefer that the idiot lost control in their field of vision.

Then the last post reaffirmed the cock waving nature of the OP.

If you like to drive quickly, buy a car that is more capable. If you like to feel like a driving god, buy a car that has a pitiful engine output but is set up to go round corners and stop more quickly than the engine can make it go. A 2004 Ka with standard suspension and brakes is not really suitable.

  • I've seen MINI Coopers (R50's) haul with more powerful/capable cars on a b-road blast because the suspension geometry, brakes and tyres have been set up to carry corner speeds properly, so that the car is less likely to be overloaded other than by driver error.

OP you should ask Alonso if there is such a thing as a slow car. I'm pretty sure his opinion will differ from yours.

People actually buy normally aspirated minis? They have my sympathy.
