All Aston Martins and I believe Maseratis are also transaxle cars.

I wonder if they have checked the paint thickness on each panel, it was all they seemed interested in when I took a car in there some years ago.

The Turbo S was 'canned' because it was ridiculously over-priced, offered poor value and no one bought it. The RS was 'canned' because the proposed racing series didnt materialise as expected.

Any other explanation is nonsense made up years after it happened.

Herd of famous PHers at the Huntingdon Lola factory #memories

Very nice 944 Turbo convertible bought for silly money at the time. BTW the white Cobra rep carries a 460 Ford!

Nippy Turbo chasing Andies 350 Cobra rep and M3John's Tardis. Shot from the necksnapping and backfiring 460 gun.

Great 80s Pork look. Those 944s cut it.

Amusing amount of hype in the text when the essential is not even listed, with what pistons being used, etc.

I went looking at a Golf Rallye there many years ago. could measure the paint thickness with a ruler. needless to say, didn't buy it.

Worked at Lola chassis building in the 90's. Just a big empty factory now...

I think the price is a nonsense too when you could clone it for £50k. I'd much rather have a 993 RS.

911 and boxster also have a transaxle but are rear / mid engined respectively.

The Transaxle moniker is bks as all Porsche have a transaxle, but since Porsche adopted and legitimised it there's no point in arguing...

... which is a shame. We were there in 2007. Great to see the CF being made. What are you doing today? #JustCurious

Assume that was the composite side, don't think I ever went over there. Today my time is my own smile.

Actually the term refers to front engine and rear gearbox, not just front engined. Key benefit is balanced weight distribution which is one of the reasons why the Porsche transaxle cars are renowned for their handling. However a very rare configuration even back in the day, as it's inefficient from a packaging perspective.
It has nothing to do with the engine . transaxle cars ..911 , 356 , 914 , Volvo 300 ,Astons , Maserati , Ferrari , Toyota mr2 , vw bug ,
almost all modern cars have transaxle at front . Renault , vw , mini you name it

the real meaning has sort of been hijacked by Porsche to name the front engine cars ....so valid point if all porsches are transaxle ...why not celebrate front engine porsches ? would not sound as cool ?

As for the call of custard on me being an automotive engineer the 100" Bowler I built is now eighteen years old and has covered over 100,000 miles. Professionally the stuff I've engineered is hard at work all over the UK, Spain, Gulf States and soon the USA.
