You can manually deploy it and many do for safety. Many sellers seem to think it looks better for some reason.

That XJC looks lovely, but the hidden rot all over the one in the owners threads has rather put me off these!

I wonder what 6 litre engine it is, a modified 5.3, XJRS 6.0, or the run out factory 6.0. If it's the later factory engine it will also have a 4 speed gearbox.
