Why does this appear very reasonable then ? Not a lot of mileage, very attractive,

Late R129 SL500, pair of new wings and paint needed so probably 1250 or so, and maybe new shocks/top mounts all round for another 1k but has panoramic roof and seller sounds genuine. Decent value at 8k.

Guess that's what happens when you try to sell something for 5k less than everyone else would ask for it.

Yep, that was waay too cheap.

Also, look at the angle of the rear wheel? Something's well out there.

Splendid late 70s W123 in a high visibility colour. Not sure Northern Scotland and rust-free can co-exist though.

It is possible (but unlikely) to have a rust free car up here, you just need to drive something else for 5 months of the year while the classic is garaged. And wax it a lot.
If it’s from the same area the garage is in it’s beside the sea too...

It's not originally registered in Scotland so may have made its way up there later in its
Iife.

FWD ? 400 bhp ? What ?!

Also, what is 'driver quality' paintwork ?

Couple of crackers here:

Slightly over-budget MB 108. Looks nice.

And a truly delightful little Fiat in a wonderful colour. I really love these little things and am sorely tempted by one (just not yet!)

Yes please, ideally both but happy to toss a coin and take one each.

I didn't think it sounded right, so I looked it up.

It's front wheel drive! Must be interesting in the wet.

I think driver quality paint is opposed to show quality, ie good enough to trundle about frying the front tyres at every traffic light while looking ok from 10ft.

Two cars, both out of budget at 15 grand. Both quite different, but both rather appealing*. Which one to have?

I sense that it probably comes down to old-school versus nouveau riche.

* Ignoring the fact that both are probably over-priced.
