Anyone know much about these? This one is at the top of the price range but it's a very late example, a 4.2 rather than a 4.0, and low mileage. I like the colour too. The shape has grown on me over the years.

I know it may well be the stupidest purchase I ever make, but I really want an El Camino. The older model I'd prefer, but they all seem north of £10k

Those look really nice don't they? Got to be sure-fire future classics. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/j...
5.7 litre V8 / Manual box and so nondescript on the outside. Lovely. Lots of these in thread budget

Am I allowed to post this then?
LR Defender 90....not fussed about the LPG but I do like the sound of a 5.9 V8. I've always liked the idea of having one of these for commuting/driving round town. I think this one needs a few quid to get it right and I'm not sure about the Q plate, although these days, you don't see many of them (Q plates) about.

This is a useful supplementary thread. The 1-5k thread has been running for such a number of years now that perhaps its upper limit no longer buys the level of car that it once did?
Although I will no doubt continue to swim and forage at the sedimentary base level of the 1-5k pond, I do occasionally make my way to the sunnier surface to briefly gaze enviously and open-mouthed upon the tastier fayre, flitting just above the 5k surface, in the hope that one day something will make the mistake of dropping so low as to fall into my mouth. They seldom do.

That's what I hope it is. I'm a 1-5 barge man, but the reality of most of my purchases is that they're in the 5-10 bracket. I certainly don't want barge-thread-fratricide. Hopefully there is scope for all.

I too would love an El Camino but the 454 SS models from 1972-ish command a whopping premium. To me though, the fact they had the 454 means I wouldn't "settle" for a 350 or a 308. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
Cool. Not cheap at £8995.

Even cooler. At £10,500, will have to be haggled.

Reference to cosmetic repair and benefitting from restoration sound alarm bells, but values are only going one way. Possibly.

That is ALL the money for the Triumph. Top top dollar.
As for the SL, well, values are only going one way for some cars. Many 107s are still probably destined for the scrapper in the next few years due to corrosion. The bottom of the pool is not a place I would feel happy trawling for a 107 without expert guidance, given that some of the serious rot can be in hard-to-spot locations.

I often see a Turbo R commuting down the M40 High Wycombe to M25. By far the coolest thing in the road at those times looks enormous and looks so so cool. No doubt low single figures MPG.
