I like that, you'd be OK driving it without worrying about putting miles on it.

Trouble is, which pair of gloves would you choose?

As my car was built for carriage, it's only right that I wear white cotton gloves whilst driving it.

At some point I'm going to need to follow through with an E28 or maybe E24, and something like this could do the job. I came very close to an M535i and then a 635CSi a few years ago, and haven't really stopped looking at them - the only problem is that other than the M535i, just about all E28s I've seen for sale here are autos, and that won't do!

Outside of M635CSi's you might also struggle to find a manual E24 as the vast majority of cars are also automatics.

C216 CL600 in neeed of mild de-chavving for £14k. I'm going to call that an extremely aggressive haggle away from top budget biggrin

Also look at this green beauty! I cannot believe those caster sized wheels and donut tyres are standard fit, I can't see properly but it looks like 235/55 R17 tyres?

The wafty ride on those would be magnificent!

My 1996 SL600 has 225 16-inch tyres as standard! Totally unthinkable today.

You'd think that but I recently went from 255/35 R20 and 275/35 R20 wheels on my S600 to 255/45 R18 and 275/45 R18 wheels - the best part of 3cm more sidewall on the rears - and noticed only the very slightest change in ride quality. Most unexpected.

For anyone thinking of taking the V12 plunge I present to you my latest fillup

It stopped me at the £99 pay at pump limit but I think it was pretty full. It's not so bad though, I did manage all of 277 miles to that tank beer

A potential change in circumstance throws my waft 10K barge search into left field - i'd still love an CL/CLS/S500/600 but i could be in the middle of Yorkshire Dales in a month and wondering if a RWD powerful long wheel base for winter is a good thing.

however i have seen some interesting video's of proper winter tyres on RWD cars showing how well they can be transformed - i do wonder how in the real world they would work in a few inches of snow............?

I'm now thinking M class merc / BMW X5's - but they really dont inspire me at all..................

Winter tyres are magic, an S600 on winters will go places an X5 on summers can only dream of in the snow. AWD doesn’t stop any better in snow than RWD and stopping (or not stopping) is where things usually go very wrong.

I'd agree. There are plenty of PH threads about tyres that descend into bickering, but my personal experience is that the car matters a lot less than the rubber.

Buy what you fancy and stick winters on, and prepare to be amazed.

Great colours. If you buy it, the first thing to do will be to remove the AMG badge.

What's the AMG badge on the glovebox lid?

I'll plump for 'egregious'. among many potential alternatives.

Car is tremendous though.

That's lovely, a proper colour scheme. A badge wally has been at it but they should all come off easily enough, including those foolish "AMG Edition" badges on the wings.

Full spec is here

https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/check-lookup/WDD221...

Upgrade leather, rear view camera, ventilated front seats, keyless go, some really nice options. I paid £11.5k for a 2007 S600 with 83k on the clock and when I was looking £9k - £10k was the going rate for a similar S500, although I was only looking for cars with ABC because I wanted to give that a try.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that after the shock and awe factor of the V12 TT has passed the V8 is probably a better choice and all the engine you need (5.4 seconds to 62MPH), you do get a lot of nice extra kit in the 600 though.

ETA This has just been listed on Autotrader if you are still intersted in an S600. Crap pics and ad but the price seems about where things are at the moment.

Agree on all fronts with the above - the badges will go inside and out - i think its also got some chrome handle guards for the door openers? I'll ask when i call later.

interestingly the same dealer has a cl500 (5.5) - although the interior on that one looks a little dull in comparison, it does have a sunroof + extended leather dash (and no badges! ;-) )

makes the trip there worthwhile if i can look at both ;-)
