I feel the journey to the dark side is already complete.

No, because he just isn't very interesting to listen too.

Chris Harris is a journalist who is knowledgeable and happens to be good in front of the camera, the kind of normal person you could sit and have a pint with. You watch his videos half for what he is doing and half because it is him doing it.

Schmee has a smarmy, annoying presenting style and if you took away the fancy cars behind him you would never watch a single one of his videos. I must add I don't know him and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he is not a natural presenter and I watch some of his videos for content only despite his presenting.
and yet shmee has extremely successfully monetised youtube and harris failed abysmally

I admit I have watched some of his videos, but I skip parts of the videos to the more "interesting" bits.

Then I get a bit put off by his voice in honesty which I find grates a little after a bit, but not as bad as say Seen Through Glass, but over these two I am more likely to watch Supercars of London. But all for me fairly, "meh".

On youtube I prefer to watch any CH video content as I find him more involving in the experience and passion of cars and driving no matter what he is driving. For other car content I love Engineering Explained...

Harris "failed" because he focussed on providing quality car review videos. Had he walked around with a handicam ala Shmee, the video quality wouldn't have been anywhere near as good. Shmee does very well out of videos which cost him peanuts to put together, mainly because of his own car collection. They're getting very repetitive now though so it'll be interesting to see where he goes with it.

I unsubscribed from Schmee a while ago, the final straw was a video of him driving a Bentley across mid Wales. Dashcam footage of my daily commute into Runcorn would have been more enthralling to watch.

I've also lost a little bit of interest in Chris Harris lately and found myself not watching his latest videos on the Top Gear channel - maybe because the hypercar on racetrack videos all get a bit samey.

My favourite at the moment is probably Harry's Garage - loads of nerdy details about the cars and ownership experience, followed by a decent blast up a country lane. A really interesting and varied car collection too.

and McDonalds sell loads of burgers, doesn't mean they should get a Michelin star does it.

shmee churns out simple forgettable videos which are specifically made to suit youtube. He's very good at it and deserves credit for that alone, but don't pretend he's a skilful motoring journalist in the same league as Chris Harris

Tim's doing his thing and obviously have a ball doing it. Fair play to the guy I say.

I also like CH and his style of reviewing. It's good that he has some proper skill behind the wheel and knows what he's talking about.

Overall it's great that there are mediums where both can flourish and no-one has to watch if they don't want to.
