The last issue of EVO was really excellent again, but it does seem to be a case that for every good issue there is a really boring one! Loved the test of the NSX, a thorough job in the old EVO style.

I still believe the printed word has a way to go yet before its defunct.

As for Clarkson, May and Hammond, I only bothered watching 2 episodes of the Grand Tour, or Big tour or whatever it was called. Totally over-rated and so corny in my booked. The episode with the mock Iraq War thing was cringe-worthy. With Chris Harris leading an improved Top Gear this series, I wonder where Clarkson, May and Hammond go from here?

Talking of EVO, its always surprised me that Steve Sutcliffe hasn't ended up there. I mean he basically taught Harris the art of road testing cars when he was Autocar Senior Road tester in the late 90s and he's wasted on EVO's sister title Auto-Exress. Surely he'd be a good fit alongside Dicky Meaden at EVO.

Absolutely agree about SS. His journalistic talents are wasted on the abysmal Auto Express and he'd be great alongside DM and others at Evo.

Sutcliffe wrote one of the features in the last issue of EVO.

Sutcliffe wrote one of the features in the last issue of EVO.
He's also done the interview with the Lambo guy on page 22 of the new issue.

If you look, he's also listed as a contributor

That's not necessarily a big loss imo, the latest issue is a good one though even if David Vivian's DB11/Vanquish head to head article is like automotive journalist cliche bingo. No one uses the word helm anywhere else when describing a car!

I really enjoy EVO. It usually has decent, balanced articles. Whereas DriveTribe seems to be an open forum for people to rant and force their own blinkered opinion on everyone else. Sure it was amusing for a while but I gave up with it in the end as it's just so dull.

Evo subscriber since very early days here, I have almost every issue on the shelves (think I'm missing 1-8 or something like that)

I subscribe to a magazine because I have no interest in online stuff - even PH, where I've been a member since 2004 I use the forums only, don't think I've ever read an article unless it's part of a discussion thread.

Evo's been through many changes over the years, and there's no doubt that it's nothing like as strong now as the days of HM, Jethro, Atkinson et al, but the best articles still have the ability to make you feel like you're there and the imagery is usually stunning and for those reasons I will continue to subscribe, simply put I still think the content justifies the cost.

I think a drinking game could be formulated... but do have a feeling you won't be able to read much past halfway through the mag.

Eh, if you read the past 6-12 months issues he writes two thirds of each edition!

If Dickie Meaden leaves my 10 year + subscription is in danger!

That goes for me as well. I was even a subscriber in its previous life in the form of Performance Car.

As for Prosser, I thought his writing was OK, but I was never a fan as such like I was with Meaden or Catchpole so I doubt I'll miss him that much.

Really good news though that Barker's back, his writing is superb.

Let's hope so. Where's he been? And more importantly, does he still own that Capri?

TBH if Barker is back, I don't know what the problem is. After all Meaden and Barker were the original joint editors I recall and were the two that came across from Performance car. So it WILL BE like the old days! Jethro Bovington came along a few years after the magazine started and Catchpole after that...... if they can get Sutcliffe to contribute a bit more, they have the basis of a very good road testing team again...must admit I've bought most issues this year....it seems to have turned a corner. I thought the years 2014-16 were pretty dire TBH. I cancelled my sub in 2014 after purchasing every issue. Got so bored I even sold my collection for a fairly paltry amount, something I do on occasions regret as the first 2-3 years were very readable!!
