Great that owners love them, but think I'd prefer an R26R myself. It just seems to do the "mad hot hatch" thing a little better
Yup, the French RS is much higher on my hot hatch list too.

I still prefer the looks and appeal of the mk1. I still think the first Focus is the best of the lot, considered against it's contemporaries. Forgetting the slightly iffy interior (those striped Sparco seats...), the mk1 RS looks so fresh.

But I'd have a Sierra Cosworth of any variety before a Focus, I think.

Better than the 4 WD 5 DOOR yikes Mk III.

Mk II Focus RS is the best RS to date. Why do I know - because I've had every single one since 1985

Total tosh, there's no pedigree in these, competition or otherwise, and as to being 'worth' £25k or whatever, as others have stated this is RSOC members and RS Direct artificially talking them up.
Always remeber pulling into an RSOC regional meet in my minuscule miles Sierra RS500.
Some turd had a just-released Focus RS500 (what a Joke, trading on the real RS500s name) and the cognoscenti and yoofs were all gathered soporific ally staring into the engine bay whilst holding their collective crotches.
As I rolled to a standstill 50yds away I heard someone say "Now mate, THATS a proper RS500" as they all flocked over to my car, leaving afore-mentioned Focus owner looking embarrassed, annoyed, and jealous in equal parts.
I must admit to actually quite liking these, but. And it's a big but, I would want one in absolutely bog-standard condition and in mint condition with low miles to pay anywhere near £25k, let alone £20k.
I could think of many cars that I'd rather have for that money, either because they're a better drive or they have better investment potential. Of course, RS Focus owners will no doubt shout me down, perish the thought that someone may not agree with their overinflated opinion of their cars values....

Saw a autocar video. Renault Clio 200 vs focus rs. The Clio out handled the ford on the bends nearly went in the back of the focus rs on a few occasions. If cosworth had a part in the engine development that might justify the fan base and silly prices. M3 or focus with a Volvo engine 🤔

Its a true enthusiasts car and a legend. Those that don't get it, never will but if you have petrol in your blood you will understand and no doubt really want one.

As regards values I recently turned down a genuine bid of £27k for my concours low mileage MR375 Clubsport (full mountune spec )and prices are only going to go up as it becomes a collectors car.
Just look at Escort and Sierra Cosworth prices at £50k.
A good Mk II Focus RS will command similar money in 10 years time
I have petrol in my blood. I understand. But I have no interest in them whatsoever. Much better cars out there for similar money.
Absolutely....

Nice car, but they never really felt THAT fast to me.

Back in 2009 I chose an R26R over the RS. It was a choice based on the fact I like a trackday or 2. Both cars do seem to have held their money well.

Sorry failed - not a true petrolhead rofl
True. I don't covet an average FWD Ford Focus. Yep, I am definitely not a car guy...

Have to agree with the general sentiment that this is a bit of a sad RS car. Probably a reasonably good, powerful FWD car. Ford didn't compete with this car, or did it? Personally being a fan of Capris, Sierras etc all this newish FWD and 4WD Ford stuff leaves me feeling very cold.

For 5k, you can put the megane engine in the Clio and tune it to 300/300, no doubt helping the Clio stick to the back of the RS on the straights too. But the sound from that I5 is just something else ears

Saw an orange Mk2 this morning. So much road presence for so little money. Arguably, right now, the best "blue collar" car for the UK market this century. The Mk3 hype is way, way overdone -- but the Mk2 remains an impactful car. Great design, nippy and tunable engine, decent handling, etc.

A 300bhp hot hatch with lsd, brembos & recaros. Whats not to like?

Obviously the mk3 is much better but these cars have loads of character too.

I do like the look of the MK II and the 5 cylinder is well regarded. But it's a big question mark if FWD will ever command the sort of prices RWD and 4WD cars do.

50k is a lot of money, even with the current sky high classic prices, I can't recall seeing any FWD cars consistently making that sort of money, things might be different in the future I guess but saying MK2 prices will hit that in 10 years is a big ask, how much are MK I cars going for ?

It's fun car whatever the price and if you have lux pack 2 all the extra s you need .
It just shows the state of people's mind and the market half the discussion is how much they go for not the the fun or the fact that they are pretty cheap to run ..hard to beat

Standard Car in white without Dynamica seat upgrade £30k

Say what you like these are the sort of prices a good car is commanding because they have a cult following

Low Mileage Mark I Focus RS £37k

Lots of ropey cars out there, but genuine low mileage cars in good condition are hard to find and are becoming rarer by the day. These will always sell for a premium

I have to agree, a chap I know has just bought an Ultimate Green Mk2 for 20k+ and could have had for the same money, at the same garage, a V8 M3 (in yellow) that was newer and undoubtedly a better drive.

The prices are being kept high by Ford nuts and their notalgia IMO.

Also, Revoknuckle 'innovative'? Renault had the Perfohub at the same time!
Toyota had revoknuckle and perfohub beat by 15+ years with superstrut.

Rather gaudy looking things that apparently never really worked properly (many had very long stays in dealerships for issues, as I understand it complex electronics that limited power in certain scenarios), worshiped purely because of an RS badge by fast ford lovers. No they arent!!! Prices artificially held high by the likes of RS Direct, to keep their business growing/afloat. And in turn, the market for them stays high!! They mouthed off that the mk3 FRS wasnt a true Rs and a heap of turd blablabla....and look they are at it with the Mk3 FRS.

Anyone who thinks a 6/7yr old Focus is worth more than a 6/7yr old BMW M3, needs their fking heads looked at!!
Yes you could get a V8 M3 for 20k but it's not a limited numbers car with a load of work carried out at the factory so of course the depreciation will be worse the mainstream car, you need to compare apples with apples.

An example of this can be seen in the prices of CSL E46's & the M3 GTS Cayman R's etc with Golf Clubsport S's are trading at 45k I don't see that trend ending soon & let's not bring Porsche GT3/4 prices into things.
