Then its not fking optional is it? Hurbis pre speccing this golf to those prices. I'm sure it will sell but not to me.

Important if you're in a race. Irrelevant in road driving.

Anyone remotely competent would be limited by speed limits and safety in any of these cars, rather than traction or power.

clap Spot on. It seems that most manufacturers have somewhat lost their way around the £50k mark. However we have to remember that they are in the business of making money, via cars for the masses, not just us idiots who enjoy driving biggrin

I wish Lotus had the financial backing to build a proper contender in this sector (I know there's the Evora, but I'm not sure it's quite there just yet - fingers crossed for the next one)

Its not 17k of options though is it? Its £x per month on whatever finance deal. The options might a difference when you are negotiating at the end of the agreement. Anybody who buys these cars outright needs their head looking at.

And who buys a brand new £60k sports car and worries about how it will look in 15 years?

I wonder if the reviewer used manual mode on the TT-RS. It will only go up a gear or down a gear not multiple gears unless that is he's using the paddles multiple times.

Some dual clutch boxes will block shift on the paddles (mine does) perhaps the TT has this feature.

Of the cars I would discount the Audi couldn't live with the engine slung over the front bumper, the Jag looks best but you know the Porsche is actually the best, pity the Jag is so heavy and quite "slow" compared to the others.

But in the right colour the Jag looks great and sounds very punchy at start up and how fast do you need to go? so I'd pick that.

Still properly shocked that a TT can cost near £70k !!! Porsche are no better either, we were in a main dealers recently, and managed to get a £46K diesel Macan up to £70k, and I didnt think I had selected a mega amount of options on the salesman's tablet ?? Car companies are now taking the piss when it comes to options, and are making folk pay for gear that should be fitted as standard at higher end price points. I certainly would not entertain any of these at near 70K, would look at slightly used but much better cars, 70k gives a lot of choices....

The standard V6 Jag (non S) is £51,775.00, so very similar to the other two in pricing.
It would be good to have a road test with the non S V6 version and the other competitors without ANY options. Sadly I think the press cannot control what the manufacturers supply.

Well it has taken a very long time but finally Dan has been seduced by a large cat and taken from the dark side.
Who knew he could take a Jag over a Porschar but it has happened and rightly so. it is amazing, the strides that Jaguar have made over the past ten years, thoroughly deserved.

Then again those winners who still put their ego's first will take the Porschar even though 90% will never use its potential.

Still finding it difficult to swallow the fact that the TT is pitched as and compared with sports cars, Although I don't even know what a sports car is, Sports GT seems more of an appropriate term these days for so called 'Sports cars' in current times.

Porsche would be my choice since I enjoy driving and would want to make the most of my virtual 50-60k and use it on track, Is there an aftermarket final drive available yet?

I knew which way this article was going to go the minute I saw the Jag. Yup, gorgeous looking car but Lordy it's hefty. 380bhp = 5.5s 0-62? is that a misprint?

I always thought cars of this ilk banked heavily on feel good? Agreed you want to turn around once you've parked it, feeling that smug glow. Surely part of that appeal is the sure fire knowledge that come the traffic light grand prix you could put your foot down and dispatch the odd boy racer?

50k plus options and getting spanked by any hot hatch that comes your way doesn't sound particularly feel good.

The Cayman is quicker, better handling and hasn't had all the pies...

But isn't in long term use from the Jag Press Office....

On the subject of Porsche's "options" ... there is a new Panamera S sat in the Nottingham OPC listed at £113k inc. options ( base price £76k ) eek

Yes you could buy a base-spec Evora 400 for not more more than these but you could also buy a TTRS or F-Type for a lot less if you wanted to.

Well actually maybe you could buy a sparsely optioned TTRS since it seems they're all pre-configured, but the point still stands. Personally I'd say the Evora is worth the extra, but there's no getting away from the fact that it's a ~10-20k more expensive car.
