Under minimum thread budget for the 2.6, these Audis are really cheap. Could make a nice cheap convertible smoker. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

I bought one of these on eBay for £536 4 years ago, and it's still going strong (ish). The heater matrix failed last year, but I've just bypassed it, and it's working well. Other than that it's just been tyres, brake discs/pads and servicing smile

I found it in the MB forum classifieds.
JESUS, NO!!!

Rarely have so many electrical and mechanical problems been crammed into one car. They were so lovely when new, now they're junk waiting to bury some poor sod in a paper mache coffin made from invoices. I think they even make an E65 BMW look like a really good idea.
Have you owned either? The 500 on the whole is a reliable unit. Biggest issues on these is rust.
Re the e65 are you just basing your opinion on what you read?

£5600 for a 560 SEC that needs "a bit of work" , what could possibly go wrong. ..

Note the recurrence of "560" in both figures....I'd say the former was more correct in what you'd have to spend on it in the first year!

I've owned an e65 745i for 6 years. It's been a great car.

My brother has had both. The W220 was an S500. It was by a country mile the worst car he has owned - absolutely laughably unreliable and rust prone, but it was a pre-facelift car and I believe these are worse? He has also owned an E65 740iL. That was completely reliable and he did a lot of miles in it.

Don't you believe it.

A friend has a 2007 730d that has also been reliable over its 150'000 miles.

Agreed, I was keen on one last year but rust in the rear arches made me walk away. We had a 320cdi in the family for years and it was pretty much faultless, it never had the refinement of the v8 however still proved a nice place to cover large distances in comfort.

And after all, if you lose faith in your W220 S500 you can probably swap it for a gold ring.

Interior looks very mouldy which suggests it leaks.... a lot. Even mine isn't that bad !

I do like the wheels though.

Morning,

Bit of advice needed, my dad is thinking of selling his 1995 LS400.

Now here's the thing, it's done 35k miles from new, has a near impeccable history, is completely original and could almost still be in the wrappers at the factory its so fresh.

I'm now apparently tasked with selling it... where do I even start with a value?

I'd look at sold listings on the Bay of dreams and see if that guides, in the first instance. I've just checked CAP but it doesn't go back that far

Bit of a strange one.

LS400s come up pretty often, for very little money. Since they are so reliable, it's my guess that people won't want to pay a higher premium for a lie milage FSH example.

I could be wrong though.

I think anything over £5k would be very very optimistic.

I keep being drawn to Daimler Super V8s

Rubbish pictures and sparse detail but this looks interesting (estimate £3,000-£4,000):

http://www.barons-auctions.com/auction_details.php...

Also advertised privately at £4,500 (reduced from £5,500) but not sold: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C903023
Unsold at the auction. I wonder what's wrong with it?
