A reminder. Well really just a notice as I have been terrible at promoting this event.

The next barge 1-5 meet is next Sunday at the York Railway Museum, at 11am. I'm definitely going to be there, r129 was signed up so hopefully he will come, and Plinth has confirmed offline.

Perhaps it's not too late to get some numbers: http://doodle.com/poll/2iebfe2237i8n6pb

All welcome, we usually have a nice time looking at the cars and then potter about the museum.
I'm definitely coming: have made arrangements to stay nearby and spent the weekend cleaning up the 190 for the purpose.

It is not necessary to buy a barge for the meeting but it does provide a good excuse.
I'll be there, avec Mrs. Any suggestions for where to congregate at 11:00 before we bomb-burst all over the place? Just loiter on the car park spotting 'thread' vehicles as they come in? Or is it 'pink carnations & rolled-up copies of The Times'?
I think we had insider information regarding a particular car park - I will see if I can dig it out later. Then we can pick a particular spot.
I had suggested this one for the NRM rather than the national rail car park (as that's a bit public and not that big), but as observed by r129 yesterday it's £9/day which seems a bit steep, although the museum is free.

My recommendation, unless you want to do a spot of town-seeing on the way in, is to come into York from the A59 junction on the ring road, that way you will get minimal traffic compared to the southern/northern routes. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.9591639,-1.09472...

Mingebag spec 530i facelift with gingers? Got to have done public duty somewhere and may well have been abused.
It;s strongly my preferred spec, which is why I have one: you're welcome to differ.

Every single second-hand car in the world may well have been abused unless you have intimate knowledge of all its previous owners. You only find out when you inspect them properly.

However, of the embassy cars I see around Westminster, even those belonging to the minor embassies, they all look well cared for pampered even, and spend most of their lives parked up.

Interesting sub question alluded to above though, given the diversity of the term barge, does a singular publication for thread denizens(be it daily paper or no) exist? confused I'd love to say C&SC, but it's not really thread appropriate, nor any marque-specific example either. Ideas?
I propose any marque-specific magazine you receive by virtue of being a member of the national club of which the barge you own is.
Not a barge, but I receive Porsche Post monthly. That sort of thing, so a Mercedes Club magazine, JEC/JDC magazine etc etc.

Also, C+SC gone down in my estimations as this months copy has about 8 incorrect uses of KPH in one group test!
It even says Km/H on the sticker Heseltine references!
As I only take the online version of MB Owners' Club, I'll have to print off a couple of pages off the website and carry them around. Sad.

I think we'll all be easy enough to spot. Looking at our shoes, mumbling, avoiding eye contact with anyone, talking to ourselves about Mercedes ball-joints, E39 dash pixels, LOOK! VELOUR!! Wives, if we have them, walking 20ft behind and pretending not to be with us.

I pity any poor sod not of this parish who just happens to turn up on the day in a thread-worthy barge, he'll not have a clue who all these sad morons are gathered around his 124/201/e39/e40/xj6/8/s etc.
I'm somewhat of an extrovert - I'll look at your shoes.

Sorry my barge is in many bits at the moment so won't be able to make it. If anyone is not sure about making a trip to a losers convention I suggest you make the trip, usually a great chance to talk barges with like minded folks.

Is that the car park opposite the car hire place?

I shall be representing (again) the "off road barge section" (Disco V8).

The Duxford meet was an excellent jolly, so looking forward to York.

Barging - caveat bloody emptor.

So yer man buys this CX Familiale out of an auction in Dorset last Friday for 300 plus commish.

https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/citroen-cx-refl...

Sticks it up on Gumtree with a sob story about breaking down, not having the time to sort it, needs to get on with the school run, priced at one-third of the insurance valuation, "i'm practically paying you to take it away"... FOR OVER TWICE THE PRICE HE JUST PAID. And it's advertised - ADVERTISED - as not working.

That's not yours in some kind of "berate me soundly and make me an offer of what I paid" self-flagellation is it?

Think so, can't quite remember what was there. It's signposted in the area.

I need to get myself down to the auctions!

He probably saw the parts prices on CX Basis and decided to chance his arm.

Another Gumtree chancer. I'm selling something on there at the moment and some bloke phoned up and offered me half of what it's on for with the usual flannel.

I'll take it off your hands for X amount for quick sale, no comeback if anything goes bang.

I replied by asking which half they wanted rofl

Just the usual temporary obsession, I'm afraid.

As W126 Coupe prices have shot skywards for the minters (and for the me-too 100k milers as well, natch) this caught my eye at within thread budget. Cracked dash, silver not the best colour and no doubt all manner of parcel-shelf grot, but stripey blue velour makes up for a lot.

MOT history suggests nothing immediately terrifying and that the car has been being used, probably all the better for it.

Looks like a nice, one owner, low-miler (49K) E200. Unhurried motoring at its finest.

At that money they could've of at least fixed the aerial. Some interesting cars in that garage.

That's less than two miles from my house! I've never heard of it, but certainly some nice bits pictured. Might mosey down for a snoop this weekend.

Looks really rather nice, wonder if it will stay within thread budget, wonder if my mrs would kill me.

I like that.

This claim is one that surely needs testing though: "The S Class is in great condition for an 18 year old car, and will give the new owner many years of happy motoring with no expensive bills"
