I doubt many will make it to that age - far, far too much to go wrong and practically anything that does will render the car an economic write off.
Sadly I think you're right. It's one reason I like my old W124 - it's still possible for a layman like me to fix it (well, most of the time!).Twoshoe said:

Not sure "Brits won't pay more than 50k for a 4pot engine" is the real reason for only offering the 350d engine here. I see plenty of 2.0 4 pot X5s, F Paces, XC90s, ML's plus countless A6s, 5 series, XF's and E classes which all comfortably exceed 50k with a few options added.
Having said that, I wouldn't consider a car like this with a 4 pot!

The description "all terrain" sounds ambitious. Could it be in breach of the Trade Description Act? That said I can imagine some people will be happy for this car if it is only required to travel on gravel tracks or slippery stuff or through snow; rocky stuff and deep mud might prove to be more challenging terrain. There is no mention of maximum safe wading depth - a more likely challenge for such a car in the UK.

Mercedes know what people pay for their cars and can see the data, I very much doubt as they do that the average sale price of an E220d is 50k+ most are boggo speced lease deals for start.Having said that, I wouldn't consider a car like this with a 4 pot!
I loved my Legacy but always felt it could do with a more torquey engine and greater ground clearance. The Outback covers the ground clearance but not the engine. Having had a couple of Mercs since selling the Legacy, I reckon this E might be the perfect car. I'll be in the market for one in about 5 years time (as I've just bought a monster GL and need to pay for it).

Nice to see it in 6 cylinder-only guise. Too many big, high-end cars offered with small 4 pots.
I couldn't agree more. In fact, chap I know bought an E220 (4-cyl) diesel and was proud of his 38mpg. My wife's E350 (V6) diesel gives (her) about 43mpg. Rather deflated his balloon.
My brother has an E350CDI (convertible coupe), my wife has a conventional E350CDI saloon and I have a GL350CDI. That 350CDI engine is rather epic, and (I'm told) responds very well to tuning. It's 265bhp out of the box, so I'm not rushing to upgrade yet. Maybe when I have another twin-axle caravan to tow.

Seems a bit pointless to me...not for off road, so really just a cosmetic package...not much better than the VW jacked up bug thats on the market.
The vast majority of people don't want to go off road, just want something that will cope when the weather turns st.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
