I know the facelift mr2 is heavier but I don't think it's quite that much. I think the lightness of the steering and lack of weight up front make it feel lighter than it is though.

For what it's worth I really like these, great chassis, unique design, great value and they feel quite special with the mid engine.

I think I prefer the mx5 as a road car though as the mr2 somehow seems to take itself a bit too seriously. That's fine for a hardcore performance car like an elise or caterham but the mr2 for me is a fun road car and the slightly snappy handling, lack of luggage space and boring engine ruin this for me.

I'm just bumping this up as hopefully one of the knowledgable owners on here can help.

Me and a mate bought a 2ZZ converted one a few months ago. It's generally in very good condition apart from a couple of small issues.

1. Radiator/cooling system has a leak and as we bought it for track use considering buying a larger capacity alloy one. Any recommendations? I'm seeing Mishimoto or eBay alloy with large capacity.

2. Fitting aftermarket bucket seats. Looking at something like the Corbeau Clubsport (Recaro SPG copy). What's the best way to mount these in the car? Anything off the shelf?

3. What's the best proven manifold back exhaust system for a 2ZZ, looking for weight savings and track noise limits. Have a basic (ebay I think) manifold and a Janspeed backbox.

The Janspeed backbox is a poor design inside, get rid of it. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can import a PPE manifold and exhaust system from the States, they are the best proven system available for an 2ZZ swap but they are very expensive.

What I did on my brothers MR2 that we converted to 2ZZ was to cut the flange off the standard 2ZZ manifold and re-weld it at a different angle. This put the exhaust over the crossmember rather than under it. There is loads of space to make up the rest of the exhaust system. It didn't cost that much to make and the difference between a cheap and nasty ebay swap manifold and the factory 2ZZ one felt like around 20bhp on the arse dyno. The car pulled so much harder at the top end.
