Maybe I havent had many truly expensive cars but that interior is very nice to my eyes.

Do you think the Aston engineers are trying to copy the 911 and subtley (read lazy) ever so slightly change it over 40 years to make it a proper weapon?

In my opinion, the DB11 sort of makes this thing look almost redundant.

That steering wheel is indeed awful and it's the better of the two options. But the car will eventually date well.

Will prices of this Vanquish S retain like those of the earlier Vanquish S?

Did the chief designer get bored halfway through and handoff the backend styling to the new intern...

Front looks great. Rear looks hideous.

Pointless changes in my view. You wouldn't choose an AM Vanquish because it is the best drivers car available but because it is better looking and a better GT. Making it uglier and more sporting but still no match for the opposition doesn't sound like a successful recipe to me.
Agreed.

This is always going to be a personal, subjective matter but...it's like looking at regression to the mean.

Yes please.

No thanks.

Whoever specs Aston press cars needs to be punished.

What sane Aston customer would paint bits of naked carbon white? (although I do think naked Carbon is not very AM either)

I also don't like that grill - I like it on the GT8/12 as they're track toys but on the road car I want a proper Aston grill please.

If I opened up my garage in the morning and that was in there I would be a very happy man. Even if the rear was the first bit I saw! Love the quad pipes!

And why do we have to wait for an "S" variant to fix the down force issues? On a £150k+ car, that should be sorted at the outset.
Why do you need downforce on a road car? rolleyes

Each to their own, but I'm of the opposite opinion. If I had the spare cash and had to choose between the two, I know which car my finger would be pointing at smile

I'd save myself £100k personally.

They've all looked roughly the same since the early 00's

I have a DBS and the 'normal' Vanquish wasn't enough of an improvement to make me want to upgrade. The Vanquish S however in 4-5 years time is looking like it may do just that!

Although I love the DBS so much that it's going to have to be something damned special to make me want to swap.

As someone else alluded to, it's mostly about the looks, if you wanted the fastest GT on the road you'd get an Italian most likely. The Vanquish looks 90% the same as the DB cars to even a trained eye, so why keep buying them after all these years.
I love how aggressive the DBS looks btw.

Can someone help me out with Astons?

I don't think I really understand the range.

I'll forget the DB7 and before era (all million years of it).

So we had the DB9, which they've just stopped making, replaced by the DB11.

There was the DBS which was a DB9 with carbon bits and a bit more power but mostly the same engine as the DB9, lower, stiffer and sharper and the Virage which had some of the go even faster bits of the DBS, but not all, meaning it sat between DB9 and DBS. Is that right or is it one of those Clarkson-isums that's nearly true, but in actual fact, completely false? Anyway they stopped making the DBS and Virage and replaced them with the Vanquish, which is sort of the same thing, but more so?

It's not going to cost them any sales, I can't afford one - but watching Top Gear has given me the impression that, a bit like Lotus did for years with the Elise that instead of bringing out new cars, they sort of tweak the engine and suspension a bit, put some new bumpers on and claim it's a new car every few years, and if so isn't this 'new' Vanquish S really just a fancied up DB9 that came out in 2004, being sold next to a much newer, fresher design that's also 50k less?

Nice car.

My (classic) complaint: 'weight' it says in the specs. Please be more specific. Every time.

Aye, it'd be nice if they were put on scales too, to see if the quoted weight is actually accurate.

I still think this looks great, but not quite as nice as the non-S version. Not a fan of the quad pipes, but do like the steering wheel, apparently it's lovely to actually use.

It's a shame they didn't add a DB11 style interior either, the current set up does look rather dated.
