Feel some sympathy for the drivers here, but proof of why you should always wait until the lights stop flashing.....

Cam cars response was the right response. Reverse and break the barrier. Other cars response was the wrong response as it risked derailment of the train.
I don't think there's any doubting that the woman in question is a massive, massive 'tard.
Thought the woman's response was correct, get out. Easy to call her a tard sitting here, but in that few seconds to make a decision, it saved her life. Bit of a cock up the lights changing that fast.
Yea right, I might scratch the car if I decide to drive through the barrier so I'll let a train hit it instead, a much better outcome. Although it came as no surprise to me when she got out.
For all we know she may have stalled the car in the panic of seeing a train coming, assuming she did, we don't know, in a panic situation you don't have long to weigh up the choice of scratching the car or running for your life.
Exactly how many weeks does someone need to make a decision.

From the time she drive under the closing barrier to the train hitting herr car was +- 40 seconds or the better part of a minute.

She had enough time to stop...think....get out the car and stand and think for another ten seconds....walk to safety on other side of barriers and stand and watch the train coming with mounting horror... and then turn and run just before impact.

8.22/23am barrier comes down and often does not go back up till 8.29am +-4 minutes later back down it comes till 8.37/8 and so on all day

Witnessed a bit of road rage today. I was already keeping my distance from the Mercedes since his driving was erratic, drifting over the road and braking for no reason and was starting to wonder if he was drunk. At around 1:30 the Corsa pulls out in front of him, so he responds by driving right on their bumper and shouting abuse out the window. Have wondered if it's worth reporting, but because he had a misplaced plate in a stupid font I can't make it out

Shame he wasn't taken out by the van he almost hit near the start, I hate people who constantly brake every few seconds like that and his tailgating stupidity was just ridiculous.

Strange coincidences. I have in the past (a few years ago now), worked Canterbury West signal box that controls that crossing. And then the very next post has a video of a piece of road I used to travel daily when working in one of the prisons on the Isle of Sheppey before joining the railways.

Isle of Sheppey... I know that road only too well. Majorly frustrating at times but that driving was atrocious.

One of two options.A he has serious sight issues or B he was drunk personally i think drunk.

My normal response to that would be to either fk off into the distance or pull right over to the left and slow down gently if needed to a complete stop.

agreed - drunk

anyone who brakes every time there is an oncoming car has severely impaired judgement

Unfortunately I didn't notice my cam had reset itself to 720p, so even checking the stills of the uncompressed video I can't get close to making out the reg number. I thought it would have picked it up, but perhaps in this instance going full on DCW mode and shouting it out would have been the best option.

Recently moved to Canterbury and have noticed how often the barrier is down, also the general standard of driving on the ring road and roundabouts is appalling.

Yup. The old tannery roundabout pisses me off every day as people come from London road down the DC to the tannery roundabout and go right from both lanes instead of left from left lane and right from right lane. SO much stupidity.

Try Hampden Park level crossing in Eastbourne along Mountfield Road, traffic queues up back to the roundabout when the barriers are down, some will drive up the wrong side of the road to turn into Brampton Road or Gladstone Close.

The level crossing is located just after a Y-shaped railway junction, most trains from London or Brighton travelling over the crossing head down towards Eastbourne then come back up again later on to continue to Hastings, or visa versa. I'm not sure of the exact timetable, probably two per hour Brighton-Hastings/Ashford and two London-Eastbourne trains with one continuing to Hastings, in each direction.

This police officer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifD2H_iLyNI

clearly hasn't watched this video about reacting to emergency response videos

http://www.bluelightaware.org.uk/

The taxi driver shouldn't go through a red light, even for a police car behind. Especially as there will be a camera on the light.
