And yet no one bothered to drag him out of the car and pin him down and call the police.

Most of them looked like they could handle themselves,
My immediate thought but in actual fact, look at the carnage he caused when he found reverse and sped off.

Slightly unpredictable situation.

So depressing that everyone's reaction to it is to get their phones out and start filming. frown

I wouldn’t go near that situation. Better to film it so there’s lots of proof of what went on.

Facebook link unfortunately but this seems sketchy.

One of the riders has a balaclava on under his helmet? Skip to 1:25 to avoid the annoying "vlogging"

Yup. Frankly, it's a daily occurrence in this day and age. Cam car did the correct thing and backed off a bit; you never know if the footage will be used in court; secondly not a situation one wants to get involved in. Not my circus - not my monkeys.

This is an interesting one- could the SUV's actions have been predictable even without indication? An extra couple of minutes of film would have been useful - had the SUV ignored previous opportunities to overtake the truck? Or was this its first chance?

If it was its first chance- I would have been a bit wary of overtaking both in one go before finding out whether or not SUV was likely to try to overtake. Especially as he started to go wide on the left hand bend, which might have been 'taking a look' before overtaking.

Ideally, it would be possible to use a little bip of the horn to warn the car you are overtaking, to avoid just this scenario- I seem to remember that being acceptable 40 years ago(!)-trouble is nowadays that tends to be interpreted as an insult.

None of which excuses SUV driver. And good that he was identified and prosecuted. But there can still be lessons for the rest of us to learn as well!

I didn't look the best place to overtake in the first place especially from further behind in the queue.

Round a bend and uphill. What if something came over the hill at high speed?

I'm amazed that a "former traffic cop" couldn't control the car enough to keep it on the road.
