“This is Operation Spartan in practice – we realise that with over 6,000 miles of roads to police, officers cannot be everywhere policing every mile – but members of the public can be our eyes and ears. With their assistance, we can get dangerous drivers off the road and make our region a safer place to travel. “I’d like to thank the member of the public who reported this incident to us. I’d also like to take the opportunity to encourage any drivers who have witnessed any driving which causes them concern, or who have captured instances like this on dashcam to report it through the online form on the North Yorkshire Police website .Footage can be submitted directly to us via a file sharing service service such as WeTransfer or Dropbox – email OpSpartan@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk “Every report and piece of footage that is submitted is assessed by experienced traffic officers and as this case demonstrates, the relevant action will be taken.”

They'll immediately regret that. Every cock end with a dashcam will be sending every clip of someone shooting the gap on a roundabout etc that fill these videos of human error and complete non events. “This is Operation Spartan in practice – we realise that with over 6,000 miles of roads to police, officers cannot be everywhere policing every mile – but members of the public can be our eyes and ears. If the police are going to do it right they need to make sure that every time DCW misuses their horn or doesn't react in a reasonable fashion that they too are prosecuted as warning that you can't drive around in an inconsiderate and unforgiving fashion just because Maplin have sold you a little camera.

Think that's the most dangerous overtake I have seen. What a total idiot.
I've seen much worse than that with my own eyesI don't think it was bad enough to justify the hammer that fell from a great height on him because of it , bad judgement and evasive action is what I saw , he wasn't going that fast, didn't even cross a white line
Have a look at the overtake starting at 1:35 if you want to see somebody that deserves the treatment this guy got
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrpyd0R3vdk
The way the dashcam warriors and speed cameras are going it won't be long before we're all driving around at 35 in a 60 because everybody is too scared to overtake anybody in case they make a slight mistake and it's touch and go for a lynching at the next set of traffic lights

Article says :- A 25-year-old Yorkshire man has been banned from driving after being captured on dashcam footage making a dangerous high speed overtake on the wrong side of the road.

You'd think an earlier warning system of some chains hung at the right height might not be a bad idea. Like the barriers that they have at the Chunnel that get progressively more aggressive.
They have a light on them which flashes when an over-height vehicle approaches. Obviously not brightly enough I've asked before in another thread why something better hasn't been invented yet to warn that your vehicle is to high for the oncoming low bridge...
Another poster pointed this out, probably way to expensive to implement everywhere, great idea though

As you come into Belper from Turnditch way, there's a sign at the bottom which flashes if the vehicle is overheight. This is located at a point where HGV's can turn around before reaching the low foot bridge. I've followed lorries before which have activated the sign and seen them turn around.Another poster pointed this out, probably way to expensive to implement everywhere, great idea though

I think suspending the sentence for 4-5 years would be more apt.

Okay he was veering across fairly gradually but it only takes one to not be reading the road ahead, lucky guy.

I have no doubt dashcams will become the new way of policing the roads....................freedom is being eroded
Freedom to jump red lights? Freedom to leave the scene? Freedom to cause pile-ups by leaving the motorway at the last possible second?I'm not sure those are actually freedoms allowed for in our systems of law are they?
