Freedom to jump red lights? Freedom to leave the scene? Freedom to cause pile-ups by leaving the motorway at the last possible second?
I'm not sure those are actually freedoms allowed for in our systems of law are they?
How about the freedom to live in a non-fascist state where members of the public aren't encouraged to spy on each other on behalf of the authorities?I'm not sure those are actually freedoms allowed for in our systems of law are they?

I've asked before in another thread why something better hasn't been invented yet to warn that your vehicle is to high for the oncoming low bridge...
Another poster pointed this out, probably way to expensive to implement everywhere, great idea though

I thought the truck heights were displayed in the cab, used to be the case. That being the case, how do these incidents happen?Another poster pointed this out, probably way to expensive to implement everywhere, great idea though

They happen because the drivers are retarded. There's really no excuse for a bridge strike, ever.
It is listed and only rated for 7.5 tonne
It is a narrow twin lane hump back, which means lorries can't get over until both ways are clear, but they get stuck because no one can see them trying to come over bridge, backs up town to a complete standstill as people then pile over the bridge and can no longer get through town as someone has either parked on the road, or blocked an entrance
They can't make the turn left or right going out of town without knocking the bridge over, usually to the right when they swing around the front corner off the trailer smashes the wall down.
At the start of each of the three roads that lead to that bridge is signs, then there are repeater signs, and they also all precede a low bridge sign ahead, classic and there are many signs and a few years back a camera and £2500 fine was put in place for going through the town.
Yesterday, apparently all the signs had been taken as a lorry drove through the town, blocked it up for 10 minutes whilst they tried to wriggle a bus past with some one parked on the double yellow lines, then blocked the bridge for 5 minutes, after going over the bridge he clipped the top stones of the wall, thankfully didn't knock it over, continued down past all the low bridge signs, got to the low bridge of 14'3 and surprise surprise his trailer was over 14'8, which then means he blocks the road, the police have to be called because he know has to reverse up around a corner on a hill, and then 1/4 mile before he can even think about turning around, of course he will then go back across the bridge which he isn't supposed to, then block the town up again.
I appreciate stuff has to be delivered, I have nothing against the lorryists, I don't get upset when they're elephant racing but look at the signs, they're there for you, but sadly you will never ever get it into the heads of that 1% who think they know best, don't care, will make it, those signs aren't for me, usually the ones that end up looking like utter s

Who was in the wrong here? Police or cam car?? Near miss UK North east - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB_MBna0irI
Police car totally in the wrong. I'm not sure of the wisdom of repeatedly flashing your lights at anyone though, let alone a police car. A single flash to say hello I'm here would have sufficed. DCW should just send the footage to the relevant police force and let them deal with it.Don't think that kind of thing is worth sending to the force though - everyone makes mistakes.

"Anyway, once cam car driver gets more driving experience under his belt, he'll realise that approaching a cars blind spot on a roundabout is the same as dangling your cock in piranha infested waters. It's only a matter of time..."Comment gold to live by there.

I dont know about overseas, but in th UK all vehicles over 3 m in height must have a height display where the driver can see it. All bridges less than 5m in height will be marked with their height.however, we (in the UK) still get lorries striking bridges.Another poster pointed this out, probably way to expensive to implement everywhere, great idea though

The solution here is the driver using their eyes and brain. More dependencies on 'fail safes' just makes us lazy and lessons our awareness

According to the update in the text she panicked because she had no power. She was in 6th after a variable speed section and the car was labouring....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1QAZHmMYdA

By the same token, shouldn't the Police be checking their blind spot for less experienced drivers who haven't received advanced driver training? Poor show on the police drivers part really although very bold to repeatedly flash lights at them. Comment gold to live by there.

I stand corrected.
Either way, she's a dim bint for standing on the brakes for no rational reason to anyone else driving on the motorway! edo said:

'm a 'thin end of the wedge' kind of guy, keen to make sure we don't go too far down the route of surveillance state but I'm quite happy to see red light jumpers go down before it's one of my kids on their bonnet next time.

Maybe some driver retraining required. She seems to be lacking in both basic driving knowledge in terms of gears and also basic awareness of how motorways work and how dangerous it is to slam on the brakes on a busy motorway. Unless she meant to press the clutch to drop a gear but hit the brakes instead.
